I think misskarne's point is that yelling "Allah Akbar" doesn't necessarily make the man an Islamist terrorist. Anyone can yell it to make people think that they are an Islamist terrorist even if they're not. With the Las Vegas shooting people seemed more hesitant to jump to conclusions, many urged to wait for the investigation and to not jump to any conclusions about the motive. This time, someone hears someone yell something and everyone is just all too happy to jump to conclusions even though the investigation is still ongoing. Yes, it's likely the man was radicalized. But there's still a chance he could not have been.

That said, my thoughts are with the victims and their families. Senseless violence yet again

The attack occurred in a no car zone. It is a bike/jogging path completely separated from all car traffic: you have to enter via one of the few access drives for park vehicles (it's part of the Hudson river park). I ride this part of the path all the time- the attack happened about 1 block away from the boathouse where I volunteer. So today I learned that Facebook has a violent incident check-in app. Luckily, all my boathouse friends seem to be safe.

I just heard on the news that ISIS has not claimed the attack and that, for now, it is assumed to be what they called a "lone wolf" attack.
Did he inflict terror, certainly. Did he identify with ISIS? Maybe. Was he an ISIS fighter? We don't know yet. Did he leave evidence making it look like he was all of the above? Yes. But until investigators get a look at who he communicated with, we have no idea what is what. We only know what it looks like at the moment. And yet, people have already labelled this one and jumped to conclusions. No one was that quick when it came to Las Vegas.

Lone wolf is also a terrorist if he intended to "terrorize" in a name of a religion or a cause, weather or not he was "inspired" or "directly sent" by a specific group or teaching.....

Left-leaning politicians are extremely reluctant to do that, especially when Islam is involved, unless they are convinced by facts that the event is linked to Islam. If De Blasio said "act of terrorism" you better believe him....

According to NBC, he lived with his family in NJ; has commercial driver's licenses in both NJ and FL, and appears to have been a trucker and UBER driver.

He apparently ran a lot of "businesses" in OH (on the local news this morning). Businesses that were just LLCs with no real business. I wouldn't be surprised to learn there is a connection with heroin imports or money laundering.

In Canada CBC is showing a picture of a group of victims, 5 fatalities from a group of 10 on a trip to New York as part of a class reunion. They all originally are from Argentina, though apparently one was currently living in the USA. Another victim has been identified by Belgian authorities as a Belgian citizen. They had no info as yet on the other 2 fatalities.

The biggest part is realizing they want to kill us. Then take appropriate action. Say......not issuing the "Diversity Visas" which this guy had. When there is a red-flag, and an investigation.......which there was.......escort them right back home.

Stop being politically correct. Start being realistic. We are so busy trying to NOT offend groups, we lose sight of the cost of that complacency. The people who were mowed down should have been protected. THEY have the right to be free and safe.

Again, there's no ongoing threat. There's no evidence of that at this time. So there's no reason to have any undue anxiety.

The Mayor should check in with the people of San Bernardino, Boston, Ohio State University or in Orlando. Yep - not a thing going on. No evidence at all. No reason to be anxious as long as you don't want to ride your bike, go to school or to a nightclub.

I agree with Cuomo (and I think he's a snake). Yes, what happened yesterday was terrible. But there is no indication that this is part of a larger ongoing plot. I feel safe in my neighborhood and my city, and despite everything, I think New York is a safe place to live.

ETA: New York has a large, multicultural population which includes many people who identify as Muslim and we are one of the safest cities in America.

I don't know what you think the diversity lottery is, but they aren't candy being handed out. And not everyone who gets selected gets the immigrant visa which then enables you to get a Green Card. There are forms to fill out, background checks, in-person-interviews and fingerprinting. In other words, everyone goes through the regular vetting process.

One of the San Bernadino attackers was a US-born citizen, the Orlando shooter was a US-born citizen and the Las Vegas shooter was a US-born citizen. But yes, keep blaming the immigrants. Islamist extremists are grateful for the recruitment tools the US is handing them with their current anti-immigrant language and it won't solve the problem, because it is not the root of the problem, but sure, keep going.

I can’t nor willing to stop you from making asinine comments, but facts are facts…

“Mass murders” have classifications (terrorism, revenge, crime of passion, military, psychological/derangement, etc.). Each classification has criteria, one of which is “motive”.

In NY’s mass murder the motive is clearly stated and confirmed, therefore it can be classified. In LV motive is not clear and intentionally hidden, therefore it can’t be classified.

- Guns (in Cal): Legal age, Legal government identification, studying for a test, taking/passing a test. Waiting 2 weeks. Buying proper carry-case.

The Las Vegas shooter is a mass murderer, not a terrorist. Whether born in the US or abroad, Islamic Terrorists are a real threat. Part of stopping that would be stopping the diversity visa program. Or, better yet, stopping all immigration of people who cannot produce verifiable paperwork.

Do you think Germany is going to waive the citizenship requirements for Massot? Of course not. Why should we?
