Just finished watching Untold: The Race of the Century where the Australia II ?? crew from the Royal Perth Yatch Club beat the Liberty ?? crew from the New York Yatch Club in the 1983 America’s Cup. I didn’t realize that the New York Yatch Club had previously defended the American Cup for 132 years. ?

And it all came down to the final race…….it was apparently one of the greatest sports events in Australia’s history. I hope that the Australians here at FSU are able to see it on their Netflix.

It was just awful how the New York Yatch Club treated Conner after their loss. I understand they were disappointed, but Conner did win the previous America’s Cup representing them. And the American crew did do one of the best performances ever. They just got outraced a tad bit by the Australians. I’m glad Conner got to win two more America’s Cup titles - for a San Diego club. ?

I also highly recommend watching all the other “Untold” sports documentaries on Netflix. Fascinating stuff - especially the Manti Te’o catfishing story. My God, that was insane!

I remember not even knowing of the existence of this race and then being happy for the Aussies when they won.

But I was especially enthralled by Te’o’s story and being disgusted with Naya for lying to him. Manti didn’t help himself with a few of his statements but he clearly believed he was communicating with a young woman who resembled Diane O’Meara.

Marathoned the 5th season of Cobra Kai today. It's amazing how a show can have such bad dialog at times (like, making one wince) and yet the show is still enjoyable.

THE TIMELINE IS SO FLIPPING SCUFFED.

I knew it was a Numenorean ship that picked up Galadriel and her friend in the last episode, because the Second Age was really the Numenorean age and they were the greatest mariners the world had seen. But it's the wrong Numenor! It is too early for that Queen, too early for Pharazon, and far too early for Elendil, Isildur and Anarion! It's too early for the Numenoreans to have turned against the Eldar and be persecuting the elf-friends.

And it's not just a little too early. It's about two thousand years too early.

I can abide a few changes for the sake of moving the story forward, but this particular part of the timeline was very well written and is available to the writers in Appendix B and in Unfinished Tales. Argh.

Anyway, Galadriel continues to be far too hot-headed for an elf of her years, there's now a weird chemistry between her and the man (who is King of the Southlands?). I did like that they touched on the absolutely tragic tale of Elrond and Elros. Honestly...the story told from their perspective would probably have been a much better one. Very tragic though. And they did a great job casting Elendil, as Aragorn is described as "more like to Elendil than any of his fathers before him", and I can definitely see that resemblance.

We still have no idea who or what the dude who fell out of the sky is. He's definitely not Sauron, which gives me the sinking feeling he's one of the Istari (maybe Gandalf or Radagast) and that's about three thousand years too early if so. I did like that he's helping the Harfoots, though.

Arondil is a lot screwed. I knew we'd reached the end of the episode when the figure who is clearly Sauron approached. Of course, this is Sauron before his body was destroyed in the downfall of Numenor, so he can take on his beautiful Annatar form. I am confused about why the Orcs are calling him "adar" though. Apart from the fact that the orcs didn't use Elvish, "adar" means "father". The orcs would not view Sauron as their father. They hated and feared him, just as they hated and feared Morgoth.

"House of the Dragon" is back to finest WTF-ery in the style of the glorious days of "Game of Thrones".
Violence, sex, incest, intrigues, great cinematography and exquisite costumes...everything my fan-heart desires.

Third ep of TROP was an improvement. The sets and costumes are gorgeous and the casting is spot on. And yes, Isildur’s sister is invented as is Elendil’s own crisis of faith, but both story points have roots in the earlier drafts of the tale (Elendil and son have a philosophical debate about whether to stay faithful although it’s the son who wants to be modern. Elendil also has a female ward).

Loving She-Hulk. I always wanted a one off about life in the MCU from the average person’s perspective and this is a great way to do it. Even if the main character is a supe, she is someone leading an otherwise mundane life in a new normal situation.

Loved this season of Cobra Kai but I think now is the time to end it. I feel like everybody’s arc is finished and the mains are ready to move on.

I can see that problem, but it causes other plot issues in the story. For example, Celeborn isn't even the story yet, so Galadriel's daughter hasn't been born yet, but Elrond is already floating around in the plot as a fully-grown, mature character? That's a problem since Elrond marries Celebrian very early in the Third Age.

Also, I was kind of hoping we would actually see the progressive fall of Numenor and how the shadow came upon it, even before Sauron's direct involvement. I think that would be an interesting tale.

I'm liking it enough to want to know how the story develops, but I'm not particularly invested in it (I didn't watch GoT).

It hasn't been renewed yet, but they're talking like they might do one more season. I'd enjoy it if we got to see Chozen romance Kumiko. I think he may be my new favorite.

Yes, it is. Not to mention more enjoyable. I am a huge Tolkien nerd, but trying to pick apart all the ways that the series differs from the original author's work is a pointless exercise in frustration, IMO -- something that I learned from watching the Hobbit movies.

A year later, the Olympics were in LA and this Aussie guy was running around waving the flag of Australia yelling "The flag that won the America's Cup" like it was a big deal while everyone was giving him very WTF? looks because we had no idea what he was talking about. (I did figure it out eventually but also I didn't care. Sorry Aussie Dude. )

I love Gary Oldman. So I decided to watch his series on AppleTV called “Slow Horses.” And I binged it. This is good storytelling and a fine cast in a mystery/action/drama about a group of British intelligence outcasts and their boss (Oldman.). It left me wanting more and apparently more seasons are on the way.

I did too! I loved the books and I did wonder if Oldman would have the buttoned-up restraint to be George Smiley. He was perfect. I wish they would film the other Smiley novels. His character in “Slow Horses” is protagonist but the opposite of Smiley.

We watched the new Pinocchio last night. We all enjoyed it, though baby mic hid under the blankets a couple of times because it was scary. Not scary enough to want it turned off, just scary enough to hide I think it probably helps that I’m not super attached to the animated version, unlike some of the other live action remakes that Disney has done. I either really don’t remember the original much or this one is a lot darker. But it’s well done and fun. Little mic loved Jiminy Cricket

The original is pretty dark. Some of those early Disney cartoons were pretty scary IMO.

I started watching Tomorrow on Netflix. This is one that comes with a warning before people decide to watch it. Grim reapers are trying to save people before they commit suicide. I've noticed an increasing theme about bullying and suicide in Korean dramas. This is the second show I've seen that specifically stated the bullying and suicide rates in Korea are the highest of developed nations.

I am watching this one in small doses instead of binging.

Started watching The Handmaiden’s Tale on Amazon. This thing is so dark, depressing, and hopeless. It’s Children of Men meets 1984 meets Stalinist Russia. Not sure I all that much like this show but will keep watching for now.

I hate watch Handmaids Tale now just to see it through to the end (although I read there will be a 6th season ). Every since Elizabeth Moss started taking a directing role I find the series has far too many closeup shots of June being angry/crazy/whatever emotion to the point I loathe the character now.

But the early seasons are great and very true to the book with Atwood's involvement and seal of approval.
