Final season (2nd half) of Vikings is starting today

Vikings aka Heavily Bearded Men Run Amok With Axes.

I gave up on it a season or two ago. Too much repugnant about it. And I was completed turned off by 'The Boneless One' (think that was his name?). Also, I was turned off by Floki.

We just watched The Midnight Sky and I loved it. I felt like the ending was hopeful because two people were going to go off and start the human race over again after we mucked it up.

We've been watching season 3 of Babylon Berlin. It was a long gap for us between seasons 1/2 and this third one, so although it's been pretty gripping, I feel like there are certain plot elements/character connections that I'm not totally getting.

And are we supposed to still like Gereon?? Because I don't. His treatment of Helga has been pretty unforgivable IMO.

In the books Gereon isn't the most likeable character, so is it's quite possible, that the writers put him this way. Furthermore the director is known, that he keeps distance to his characters.

In the third season I wasn't rooting for anybody. The greatest difficulty for me is to stomach the characterization of Charly. The writers took more than just some liberties. The character of Helga isn't in the books, and I don't like what they did to her.

I recently read the 8th novel "Olympia". It's the first book, were Gereon is described more likeable.

I'm not sure, if I will to continue to watch the series. In this case I find the deviations from book to series annoying.

Over the holidays I've finally watched the last episodes of the 1st series of "Stangers", and binged the 2nd one. I used the pause button a lot (to read the subs). Imo the first series is better and more griping than the second. Anyhow, I liked the 2nd a lot, it's still a good deal above average. I got the impression, that S2 was meant to educate us about some aspects of the judicial system, the cancer named corruption, how easily you could be bribed through sprecial treatments of others.

I appreciated, that they kept up with some of the characters of the first season. I can't wait for a 3rd installment. Is there any news, if there will renewal?

But basically I've given up on Season 4 of the Crown to watch Bridgerton. Eye candy >>> Margaret Thatcher is how I view it.

I'm pretty sure I remember my friend who also watches it saying that there will be. I liked both seasons equally, although I missed a character from the first who doesn't have as many scenes in the second. I was impressed with how well they managed to integrate the new characters; I'm usually the kind of person who has a hard time adjusting to cast changes, but the newer actors were incredible.

I love the look of this show! The acting and the production values are superb. I may have preferred Season 1 because we felt we finally got a handle on what was going on halfway through, but we felt lost through much of Season 2, though we still enjoyed it. LOVED the final scene of S2.

Enjoying S3 of Cobra Kai. I liked that there was real closure with the original trilogy characters they brought in for this season, although I thought it was ridiculous that Daniel’s business was saved by

the little girl he rescued from the bell tower in the second movie

. I also liked that some light bulbs went off on some of the kids when they realized where Kreese was headed.

We are midway through season 2 of His Dark Materials, and I'm really enjoying it. As much as I liked Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter in the original movie, I have to say Ruth Wilson may be even better in the role. She makes a deliciously fierce and frightening Mrs. Coulter, and her golden monkey daemon is so well done by the animators/creature creators. As in the books, I just want more of them as a duo. The Lyra/Mrs. Coulter confrontation we watched last night (think it's episode 5 or 6) was terrific, so much so that I want to see it again. Also loving Lin Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby and his daemon Hazel. They bring a fun bit of humor to the series.

I'm probably a bit behind everyone else, but I've been watching the Icelandic show 'Trapped'. Classic dark Nordic Noir with amazing Icelandic scenery too. Highly recommend.

I've been interested in watching that. Is it a bit like 'The Great' -- the classic period drama with a tonne of modern influences added to spark it up?

I watched The Phantom Carriage on Criterion yesterday... apparently Ingmar Bergman watched it every summer and it is a touchpoint for his whole filmmaking aesthetic... which explains a lot. It's sort of like the dark Scandi-noir version of A Christmas Carol.

Some of it is culturally interesting to me. Just started season 2. Probably mainly the bit where Andri's 15 year old daughter was running around out in the open country all night with a strange boy while murders are happening and her Aunt was shrugging blankly at her dad when he expressed concern. I mean, I'm on Andri's side here! Anyway, I will keep watching.

Oh and Andri has that real gruff and moody detective vibe perfect for Nordic Noir.

I agree, but I am still watching it. I think the issue is that the storyline in season 2 (so far) is not as 'exotic' as the first season. As a person from a sub-tropical climate, a full North Icelandic winter was a sight in of itself. However, the season 2 themes may be a more topical storyline from the Icelandic experience.

Thank you to whoever recommended the Disney plus documentary On Pointe. I really enjoyed it and definitely got sucked in to the kids’ excitement about the nutcracker. I was afraid the kids/parents would be irritating but they weren’t. Baby mic also got kind of into it and is now doing plies and dancing on her tiptoes

Yes. The second season is more political and in ways that probably cut close to home for people all the world around . Not that straight up escapist gore of a torso floating in a fjord in a town cut off by massive snow storm.

I love Criterion, and I recommend The Castle of Sand. It’s an adaptation of a Japanese detective novel that was published in English under the title Inspector Imanishi Investigates. I read the book a couple of years ago, and a friend clued me in that Criterion had the well-regarded movie. It’s definitely worth watching.
