I watched the first couple of episodes of The Americans last year and couldn’t stick with it. I think it may have been too dark for that time in my life so maybe I’ll give it another shot one day. I just breezed through Yellowstone the last few weeks which is very dark and loved every minute of it.
For some reason, it took me two restarts in season 1 to get into it but once I was hooked, the show just grabbed me and never let me go on the most thrilling tv ride I’ve had in forever.

Currently binge watching 'Maid' on Netflix. Goodness, it is SO good. Will watch a second time (not even finished the first) with Mr. Japanfan if he is is willing to give it a try.

I always hated Andie Mcdowell (sp) previously, in 'Sex, Lies, and Videotapes' and 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'. I thought she was just vacuous as a person, didn't consider that it was the characters she was playing that were vacuous.

Well, that is obvious on 'Maid'. She just knocks it right out the ballpark, and isn't a vacuous character.

Her daughter on the show is her daughter in real life, which adds to the chemistry between them.

I thought it was magnificent. Felt like I was transported to another world. Will have to go see it in a theater now, to get the full sense of scale.
Yes...because of knowledge of the books I wish they made part one and part two together but of course you would be occupied for several hours.

I do too. The main complaint I had was that they ended Part 1 in kind of an awkward place. That, and some of the scenes in the trailers didn't match the ones in the movie, which means they shot more than one version. I hate when they do that.

I finished watching a documentary called Found, about three young Chinese-American women who were adopted by families across the US from Chinese orphanages. After a DNA test, they discover they are cousins.

They get to know each other and plan a trip to China to see their orphanages and perhaps meet their biological parents. The documentary follows the three girls, the parents, the woman who leads these tours for the girls (her trying to find the biological parents for each girl is utterly fascinating), the people who work at the orphanages, and the people the woman meets.

I bawled one minute in and didn’t stop.
LOVED THIS. Please watch!

Has anyone been watching Only Murders in the Building on Hulu? It plays like a network show, but there are a lot of f-bombs. It's quirky and the main characters' love of true crime podcasts could be more central, but Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez make an interesting trio. Selena Gomez has a really distinctive speaking voice.

I also have major apartment envy from this show.

I especially like Gomez in this. I’d love to see what she can do with some heavier material. This series is a lot of fun.

I enjoyed Dune and it definitely needs to be seen in theaters. Big plus to Rebecca Ferguson. My one gripe was not enough of the Harkonnens. The Baron is one of sci-fi’s greatest villains because he is cunning and totally lacking in any morals. Unlike his nephew, he doesn’t slaughter his enemies, he psychologically tortures and breaks them.
I thought it was a big mistake not to explain that Yueh was conditioned to be literally incapable of betraying the Duke, showing just how terrifying the Baron and Pieter were
.

Agree with your spoiler.

Andie started off her career rather inauspiciously in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan in which her voice was dubbed by another woman. In English. But she was very pretty in that movie. So maybe there really is something vacuous about her. I never was a fan. I mix her up with Lori Laughlin, lol.

I just watched Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken. Wow. I figured chicken fast food isn't the best option but it's much better than say TacoBell or BK. Not really.... It made me go back and rewatch the original SuperSizeMe, which I thought was exceptional.

That other woman who did the voice dubbing wasn't just any other woman; it was Glenn Close. As for Andie McDowell, I seem to remember liking her in Green Card, but I haven't seen it in years; I might hate it if I saw it now. Of course, her co-star in Green Card is Gerard Depardieu, so there's that.

I just finished it - loved it. I have always loved Steven Martin and with Martin Short and Selena - it was great.
Yes Selena has a very cool voice and she held her own with the 2 old guys.
the ending was OMG and can't wait for next season.
The part with Martin being pushed in the dog carriage - reminded of a scene from 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels'.
And the whole thing with Sting was just so silly and fun.

The apartments are so huge!

I am planning to go this weekend. I want to see it on the big screen at least once.

ETA: Had a chance to go see it tonight, so I did. It is much more impressive on the big screen (and the sandworms are much scarier).

Finished first season of Locke & Key. I liked it, entertaining. Started with season 2. So far not convincing, just titbits. IMO the writers couldn't decide which story to tell and opted for everything, and using stereotyped somehow stale ideas. Not sure, wheather to continue or not. Has anybody watched it?

I watched it, too. I thought it was very well done. There are so many wonderful women in this documentary, from the adoptees, to the adoptive mothers to the nannies to the woman trying to help connect everyone.

Also, I watched Baking Impossible, which teams up bakers and engineers. I though it was lots of fun, and I enjoyed it more that I thought I would.
