"Hannibal" is leaving Netflix next Friday. Sniff. I love this show. Anyone know of any other services that might carry it? (Yes, I know purchasing it on DVD/BluRay or in digital format is always an option. I'd rather wait until my cash flow situation is a bit healthier.)

Speaking of Netflix ... is anyone else watching Castlevania? I just started streaming it, and I'd like some opinions on whether it's worth finishing.

Hannibal is on Amazon Prime video.

Just finished the first episode of Panic on Amazon Prime. I am already sucked into the story and will probably watch to the end unless it can't keep up the pace.

Just watched Goodnight Sugar Babe: The Killing of Vera Jo Reigle on Amazon. This documentary is so disturbing. That poor young woman never really had a chance.

So we did a double feature last Saturday: We were absolutely DELIGHTED with "The Mitchells and the Machines." There is so much to enjoy in this one.
We watched this tonight. It was hilarious! We loved it. I want to hug that dorky cross-eyed dog.

For some reason I could not keep my interest in the first season of “Line of Duty.” But the next three seasons (Keeley Hawes, Daniel Mays & Thandie Newton) were “get the popcorn ready” binge worthy episodes.
Waiting SO impatiently for the next season!

I discovered that Peacock has the 1970s Little House on the Prairie series. Pointed it out to my girls (almost 12), and they've been binge-watching the first season this weekend. I love that they are not too jaded yet to enjoy the show. :D

We watched Mare of Easttown this week and really enjoyed it--looking forward to tonight's final episode. I haven't seen too much of Kate Winslet's recent work for whatever reason, but am now realizing I should check it out. Such a great actress.

We also started the first episode of The Underground Railroad last night. I found it difficult to watch and we stopped halfway through--will go back to it, though. Such important subject matter--but not light viewing.

Binged on Mare of Easttown. Kate Winslet was great in that role. There were a lot of strong performances. I adored Evan Peters' character for some reason.

It was a good show.
We’ve been on a road trip for the past two weeks but had to catch up with Mare while in the hotels. I’m so afraid that’s going to be all, no more seasons, but I want to see more!

I had to watch Trouble on Netflix because of all the names doing the voice work on it. This was not worth the time except for a cute moment or two. If you want to hear Snoop Dogg do a dog rap at the end just skip forward and save yourself a lot of time. I think they wanted to get Michael Jackson's music for the squirrels but couldn't for whatever reason. Instead of giving up on the Michael Jackson idea they went ahead with dancing squirrels and random poorly written music with Jackson dance moves. There is also an animal tracker that I think is supposed to be based on Ace Ventura Pet Detective. That pretty much sums it all up.

Cult Russian tv series of late 90s, Brother/Brat (1997) and Brother 2 (2000s), became available on Netflix with ENG subtitles fews days ago.
It’s not a light and pleasant watch, but for those who would like to get a chance to see how the country and people were coping with new reality after the fall of the Soviet times, it’s a must see.

Which Netflix are you watching it on? Just tried my VPN on a few places and can't find it.

Was there a TV series, too? I just know the films. (Cinema and DVD from the library)

I started watching Ragnarok last night (the Norwegian series). A friend recommended it. 2 episodes and I am in.

I was trying to look up a specific Bollywood song and in the process came across The Family Man S2 on prime, which is pretty interesting so far. I like Scandinavian noir, but it's nice to see a thriller with a completely different backdrop. If the series continues to hold my interest, I'll check out S1 since it seems like the plots are pretty self-contained.

We finished watching The Underground Railroad on Prime last night. Hardly know what to say about this series. It is rather unlike anything I've seen before on streaming TV. It was directed by Barry Jenkins, who directed Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk, and the production values and the whole way it is filmed is more like a movie than a TV series. (In a his interesting review, the Roger Ebert site touches on the cinematic art aspects of the series.)

Most of the coverage I've seen about the show fails to adequately convey, to my mind, the basic nature of the series. This is not a historical film. It takes important elements of U.S. history (primarily, the laws surrounding black slavery in the antebellum South) and uses them as a framework to explore slavery and the black experience from a viewpoint that is more allegorical and fantastic realist than anything else. There is a surreal quality to the whole series. I found it fascinating ... not enjoyable, exactly, but compelling. It is hard to watch. I guess it had to be hard to watch. No story about slavery should be easy to watch, right?

It's based on a book by Colson Whitehead, whose first book was the really interesting The Intuitionist, about an elevator inspector. Also somewhat surreal, but there it's more of a touch of surreality in a generally realistic setting. It's worth checking out, if you liked this series.

btw, sadly, Roger Ebert passed away a little while ago. It looks like his site has continued, but with reviews by others.

Yes, I'm definitely going to check out the book now!

I didn't realize that about Roger Ebert! Yes, I see now that the review is on his web site, but written by someone else.

@mjb52 So have you watched the TV series? Very curious to hear other people's opinions of it. The critical reviews were almost unanimously good, it seems ... but the Rotten Tomatoes score of the series isn't that high (maybe indicating that actual viewers haven't liked it as much?)

The Intuitionist is one of my favorite books. And glad to hear that the fantastic elements of The Underground Railroad made it into the tv show (which I won't see unless/until it's available outside of Amazon, unfortunately)

Nope, but now I'm curious, so I might try it and see. I haven't read his more recent books, including that one - I need to catch up a bit. I'm really interested in the one set in Florida - I had read an article about the historical issue behind it some years back before he wrote the book about it and thought about it from time to time.
