Neko Atsume kitty collector -- any other addicts?

My tablet keeps freezing at black when a cat tries to bring a memento. I've only managed to get 2 so far and missed 5 others.
 
I've played since the new year! Got all the expansions and just about all the gold furniture (I think I just have two items left). :D My catbook's full but I still have maybe a third of mementos left, that'll definitely take patience.

Peaches, Frosty and Rascal were hardest among the "non-rare" cats to get, so best to know what they look like so you don't miss a photo opportunity. Also, you really don't have to spend gold on cat food - I'm pretty sure Sassy Fran was the only one who required it for me.

I might have missed an earlier post but don't refill the bowl while Tubbs's still there or he won't leave you a lot of coins.

I've had that black frozen screen thing a few times too -- I wondered if it was a memento. But I'm not sure how we'd know for sure. Seems wrong that we'd lose it if we don't tap to accept it right away.
 
I usually put out the free food at night so that I hopefully won't miss any rare cats. Somehow Ramses the Great decided to finally visit twice last night when the free stuff was out. Is it wrong that I'm sorta glad I was up forever with a stomach ache since otherwise I would have missed both visits? :shuffle:
 
I've only been playing for a few days (since reading this thread) and I'm hooked.

I had a royal visitor this afternoon! I admit to feeling a thrill when I opened it up and Xerxes IX was regally sitting on my Zanzibar cushion (and I have a photo for proof). :D
 
Why did I open this thread :shuffle: Downloaded the game yesterday and it is seriously addicting. I have one going on on my phone and another on my iPad. Saving for the expansion.

ETA: Fred is my favorite so far; he's great about giving good amounts of fish and gold fish. The only rare cat I've had is Tubbs, who showed up within minutes of me putting nice food out.

So did everyone else pay money for their expansion? I am still about 50 gold fish away from buying it. I think it will take 2-3 more days.

Then I can buy stuff to attract the rare cats.

I paid for it. After that I found a list of what toys earn the most fish of both colours and I used that to get what I needed for the rest. I just lacked the patience at the time to wait until I had the fish to buy it.

We waited, though it felt like a long time :D

We exchanged the silver fish for gold ones as soon as we got 500 together, though, so that helped a little.
 
I paid for my expansion. Partly it was lack of patience, but it was also that I just that there were so many cute toys I wanted to put out, and without the expansion there isn't enough space! Plus this is such an awesome game, I'm happy to throw a few dollars to its developer.

I did save up for my Zen re-model though.

I achieved one goal last night: got a picture of Smokey and (the) Bandit together -- on one of the cubes. I've been trying to get that combo since I noticed their names. :D (The cubes are great toys, btw -- as far as I can tell they're the only "small" toys that can have 2 cats on them at once.)

But still no new mementos from any of the rare cats, despite having their favourite toys out. And Frosty still hasn't visited at all ...
 
I didn't pay - it took awhile to get it, but then my sister told me to "stop buying everything", and after I took her advice, I got there pretty quickly for the expansion. Then I redecorated twice, so I have three themes to choose from.
 
I think it is controlled by a random number generator so it is different for each cat and player. I've been playing for a week and I have three.
 
I think I got my first memento on day 2 or 3, but it wasn't until after I got the expansion that they really started pouring in.

Yes, Fred is very generous. I think Fred, Bolt, and Lexy are the most generous with their gifts.

Some of the cats' descriptions are pretty funny. Billy the Kitten has a "nihilistic" personality -- LOL! And Tubbs is a "finicky feaster"? Really? Feaster yes, but definitely not finicky!
 
Not to brag, but I have pics of all the kitties now, so it's on to the memento hunt now! I have mementos for a few of the rares, but the stupid random number generator hasn't been on my side this week. Still missing mementos from Frosty (who I assumed was a rare), Peaches, and Rascal as well.

I've been holding off on the remodels, but that zen one is so purty that I may convert my stash of silver fish soon.
 
The Zen one really is lovely, I can't imagine I'll want to ever change. Even if a couple of the toys don't really "go." Like the cowboy hat -- which I have to keep putting out until Billy decides to leave me a memento.

I'm not sure Frosty why still hasn't shown up, despite the fact that I always have at least 1 comfortable cushion out. (He/she is designated as rare, so I don't feel so bad.)
He has a low power level though so maybe he gets scared off by the other cats.

Sassy Fran and Bob haven't visited either, but I haven't bought their favourite toys yet.
 
I'm saving for the expansion too. On the one hand, it isn't much in terms of $$, and I agree with someone who said that the game is such fun they don't mind tossing the developer some, but......... I have a personal thing about never doing in-gam purchases to help my progress in something. So I will save my fish. But really, I can't see it taking all that long to get it. I only started playing Friday night, and I already have 105 gold fish (and that is with spending some to buy the cardboard truck).
 
I spent all my gold fish at first. It took me a few days to realise I was really enjoying it and kind of hooked.

I have 179 gold fish right now!

Ok, I bought the metropolis yesterday, and had it out all day and night ... but no sign of Bob. Harumph.

We bought it the day before yesterday and have had three visits from Bob already - he's been too busy!

Does anybody else like the music? I just adore it so much, I can't explain how. It's got to the point where we hum the tune when we're not in the game itself :D
 
Ok, Bob finally came, but he's on the top shelf of the metropolis, and there's something off about my display because I can only see the bottom half of him! As soon as he's gone I'll have to restart the app to see if that fixes it.

Ok, I think I figured it out: the metropolis is just too big to have inside in the Zen layout. I'll have to put it outside instead, that 2-slot spot is lower down on the screen. Plus it says that Bob is "outdoorsy" so he'll probably prefer that.

I really like the bureau better inside anyway, aesthetically.

I received my first memento from sweet, sweet Pickles the other day. I just love watching her play with the toy capsule. I've since been gifted with a seashell earring from everyone's favorite lady-killer, Fred. :cat:

Do any of you keep certain toys out that your favorites enjoy (instead of switching them out to attract other cats)?

Tubbs has come twice today and eaten all the food. At least he has gifted me with many fish for the trouble!

Fred is a doll. He leaves me so much gold.

I put out the red ball just because I love to see Snowball play with it. And put away the fish that the cats like to masturbate with.

I'm so annoyed. I meant to trade my silver fish for gold fish and did the opposite. So I had to buy my gold fish back. Basically, I wasted a ton of silver fish. Grrr.
