NCAA Gymnastics

I’ve loved Michigan’s attitude all season. The level 10s and specialists really stepped up and didn’t force Fred and Paul into carrying the team.

Clemson's new coaches are Justin and Liz from Cal! Excited and sad at the same time

SO excited for Clemson! I saw rumors on Reddit last week but thought it was unlikely but while Clemson sure isn’t Berkeley, they’ve got an AD on solid footing ready to fully support the program. The longer it took to make an announcement, I was worried they’d struck out for what I felt was a very appealing job. If you were going after proven head coaches, they couldn’t have been too far down the list knowing you’re not getting KJ or Jay Clark.

I think it’s pretty obvious Amy Smith was up to her old ways but we’ve had so much fun cheering for Clemson the last 2 years and I hope this hire means their gymnasts continue to pave the way for the young program. My experience with Clemson athletics was life changing and so positive, I hope the gymnasts can experience that.

I don't follow closely anymore, the scoring bothers me too much.

But...regionals have been super exciting.

Balancebeamsituation.com has great coverage. The last regional saw all four teams score a 197.something. It was super close with Minnesota edging Utah for thr 2nd spot behind UCLA.

Regionals were SUCH a roller coaster of emotions for me. I saw my Buckeyes actually make it to the final round in the Lexington Regional (where they did an awesome job overall :cheer: ) but it was at the expense of Kentucky, another team I like, having one of their worst meets ever. I was THRILLED to see UCLA and Minnesota move on from the Corvallis Regional which was definitely the toughest one overall. Happy for Florida and LSU to make it to Nationals (the more teams there who can take out Oklahoma, the better, LOL) but dang, Clemson was SO FREAKING CLOSE and was just one solid bar routine away from their first Nationals appearance. That was heartbreaking for me because I really enjoy their gymnastics. Nationals is going to be insane!

I’m surprised that no-one from Alabama made it as an individual. They have the 2 highest ranked bars in the regular season, but regionals was tough on them.

Yeah, that surprised me too but they were in the ugly regional with all those good teams with high scores and just didn't quite make it. That last regional was SO tough!

Same. I watched a bit early in the season to see the “not quite national team” freshman gymnasts, but this skating season has been all consuming, so it took over my viewing time. I do plan to watch the finals.

I wonder what changes to the scoring/judging system might generate more meaningful differentiation in scores. Should the possible difficulty be increased? Longer routines? Are aspects like "stuck landing" given too much weight vs. other technical challenges?
