NBC Sports: Female Russian skaters stars rise fast, but burn out too soon

I am sure she did want more medals and titles..... But she appears to be perfectly happy and did not hang herself over transferring to college life..

So if one does not hang themselves they are completely content with their career? I guess no one in skating has career disappointments, based on your opinion. Which is actually pretty insensitive in regards to people like Gracie Gold who fought through feelings of suicude during low points of her career. Really not funny. 🙄

You think they have no political clout?

That's not what I said. If you can't understand, it's a moot point anyway. Not to mention wrong topic for this thread.

In regard to Polina, we should ask her directly. However, I think from the evidence available, she was going to go to college and still skate, much like Nathan Chen. It wasn't a matter of either or. It's just that the persistent injury complicated her ability to return to the sport. She made a concerted effort to return and she gave it her all. She did the best she could so I doubt she has any regrets.

Most likely being in college and making many friends in that academic milieu has helped Polina to make the transition from competitive skating to real life. She apparently still maintains her friendships within the skating community too.

... next time you hear "the straw that broke the camel's back" call PETA..

On the subject of content when leaving skating. Leaving/quitting an important activity in life varies by people. Polina did not show that it was a big tragedy for her. She appears to be very happy, and moved on.

Polina never medaled on the grand prix. She has one challenger series medal. She did win 4CC and skated at the Olympics as her first senior international and second ever senior event. She has two senior international medals.

Also, Polina was very fortunate in her 4CC win, with a 184 score. Satoko got the silver with a very substandard 181, and Gold off the podium with 176 in 4th.
