Nathan Chen Fan Thread #2

Ok, I was confused by this:

I did say wish and not predict…
Oh true. But that manifesting is just me wishing for something very unlikely (but I'd be totally happy if it happened), so might as well add another even more improbable condition to the mix

There's nothing wrong with hoping that we see Nathan compete again someday, IF that's what he wants and if he feels healthy enough to do it. If he doesn't feel up to it, nothing wrong with that, but if he does, and if he can enjoy doing it again, it would be lovely to see a few more competitive skates from him. He's smart enough to know what he can handle and what he can't, and we can trust his judgment either way. He's not going to do anything stupid -- pulling out of Worlds to recover from his injury proves that.

I can understand why Nathan wants to take care of his body and move on with school. I wish there were a few high quality pro competitions around. It would be great to still see skaters like Nathan, Hanyu, and Jason Brown compete in some capacity.

Nathan updated his website with new Olympic photos

Fun game to see if you can name all of Nathan's competitive programs

Not sure if this version of Nathan's Toyota commercial has been posted but it's probably the best one.

Nathan was one of several athletes briefly mentioned on the Nike earnings call.
NIKE's connections with consumers are driven by sport and cultural authenticity. And our roster of athletes is second to none...Nathan Chen won gold for the U.S. in the men's singles figure skating.

I give it 40/60 to Nathan competing as an amateur again. I wouldn't say it is likely, but I wouldn't say it is incredibly unlikely he makes a return at some point for 2026. Even if he does I don't think a return to dominance at that point would be easy, but I wouldn't care. I would just be happy to see him again. That is why his WD from worlds is sad, since it would have meant getting to see him compete again for sure, atleast one more time.

I hope we atleast see him skate some in shows though.

I also wonder about Hanyu's future at this point, and what he will be doing. What a huge change for mens skating if both are done.

SOI Japan has received many inquiries regarding Nathan's appearance in the show after his withdrawal Worlds and in response they have posted a notice to inform everyone that his participation is still expected, even in the show's group numbers.
He is so popular in Japan. He might be the 2nd most popular after Hanyu there (or 3rd behind Takahashi). I honestly think he is even more popular than Uno or Kagiyama there which is incredible, and shows what a star Nathan is.

Olympic skaters tell us their spirit animal.

Photo with fan in British Columbia. I'm guessing this was taken during Skate Canada.

Nathan and other skaters in cool lighting.

Not directly related to Nathan, but had he gone to Worlds he would currently be on a flight to Japan with the others performing in SOI Japan.

SOI Japan will hold a live press conference tomorrow on Youtube. There will be a 3 way discussion between Nathan, Shoma, and Yuma.

Olympic skaters asked what they would put on a billboard.

During the press conference Nathan revealed that his hip is doing better but will still need treatment after he's done with the SOI tour.

Here's part of Alysa's IG Live where Nathan is showing off his new camera.

Day 3 photos

Nathan has been honored with the Trailblazer Award by the Committee of 100 organization. He will accept the award at their conference in Washington DC on May 5, which is coincidentally his birthday!

First day of SOI is done. Nathan skated to Rocketman in the afternoon performance and a new EX program, Space Song by Beach House, in the evening. He also participated in several group numbers. No quads but did a few backflips.

Too many photos to list individually so here are some places where you browse them at your leisure:

I also heard that there was a short interview in the SOI program. According to those who read it Nathan says the reason he switched his Oly EX to Caravan was because the organizers wanted him to do something more upbeat, and the reason he wanted to attend Worlds was to see if it would help him decide whether or not he would like to continue competing.

I love this position he gets into in the group number.

Nathan was interviewed during his visit to the Panasonic HQ. While there he also learned about the Panasonic Impulse American football team. I believe Yuki is there in the background in one of the slides.

Short interview with the Irvine Standard.

SOI Japan site has uploaded more photos from the show.

Nathan participated in an Airweave company presentation, demonstrating their new portable mattress. Mao Asada is a brand ambassador for the company and was supposed attend but had to cancel last minute. However, she did send a message congratulating him and saying how impressed she was by his Olympic performance. He responded that she's always been an inspiration to him.

Photos from the event:

Poor Nathan has had to work the entire time while his friends have been sightseeing. The skaters are probably back to rehearsals tomorrow.

Here's a flashback to when Nathan performed at Skate Asia back in 2010:

Not gonna feel sorry for him getting these opportunities. I’m sure the $ will come in handy to pay for Yale.
