Nathan Chen Fan Thread #2

Not a photo, but just posted a video of the Rocketman step sequence from opposite judges’ side, face plant included. You can hear people around me going “ouch” and my friend saying “omg!” when it happened. Really fun to see him laugh it off. ?

Thanks for sharing, @marysy :) - that was really funny to witness in person and to re-live the moment! :D

Bridgestone Americas press release (Jan. 14, 2022):
Nathan Chen is one of two winter athletes returning as a member of Team Bridgestone from PyeongChang 2018. Chen began skating at the age of three and entered his first figure skating competition in 2003. Today, the 22-year-old is a three-time World champion (2018, 2019 & 2021), a 2018 Olympic team bronze medalist, a three-time Grand Prix Final Champion, and a six-time U.S. national champion. Currently a student at Yale University, Chen has taken time off to focus on his skating in preparation for Beijing 2022 and securing a spot on Team USA for his second straight Olympic Winter Games. Through the progression of his career, Chen has also sought to find ways to make an impact off the ice through efforts to increase diversity, equity and inclusion in his sport and beyond.

#TeamBridgestone ? I’m honored to join this incredible group of humans on the road to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. As much work and heart as we’ve each put into our own journeys, nobody makes it to the Games alone, and it means everything to have our families, our friends, and you in our corners as we head to Beijing. And I am grateful to @bridgestonetires for supporting my dreams, too — thank you for believing in me. See you in Beijing @theonearmdan @brittanybowe @markmcmorris @elanameyerstaylor @monstermikeschultz!

Nathan also appears in the Feb issue of GQ

Haha, an interesting counterpoint to the Vogue photo. Hmm, Nathan's wearing a fancy Omega watch in both the Vogue and GQ pics. Wonder if he has a new sponsor or if he just developed a taste for snazzy watches.

Sister Alice admiring her stylish baby brother.

Tara speaks about Nathan and his place in the sport.

Nathan gets a shoutout from Toyota Japan's social media.

Team Raf account asks if we know the meaning of Raf's KnC gestures he made after Nathan's victory.

More info on the commercials.
In collaboration with NBC Sports, Universal Pictures worked with the Jurassic World Dominion filmmakers and the legendary artists at Industrial Light & Magic to create a breathtaking, thrilling two-minute spot featuring U.S. Olympians Shaun White, a three-time gold medalist, Mikaela Shiffrin, a three-time medalist including two gold, and Nathan Chen, a three-time world champion, who each experience their own up-close-and-personal encounter with iconic Jurassic World dinosaurs as they snowboard, ski and skate amid stunning winter landscapes.
Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin debuted the first of these spots with an appearance on NBC’s Today on Jan. 21. This spot, which features Shiffrin with the raptor Blue from the Jurassic World films, will also run during the NFL Divisional Round game on January 23. Then, beginning at 8 p.m. ET on January 31, all three of the individual athletes’ individual spots will appear simultaneously in a “roadblock” across multiple platforms. This will be followed on February 3 by a primetime exclusive preview of the 2-minute spot featuring all three athletes and the campaign will culminate with the official premiere of the 2-minute spot during NBCU’s coverage of the Opening Ceremony on February 4.
“I’ve looked up in wonder at the Jurassic World films on movie screens, so to be able to do it myself is beyond anything I could have imagined,” said Nathan Chen.

Local NBC Connecticut station aired a feature on Nathan.

Vladimir Litvintsev named Nathan as his current favorite skater.
Do you have a favorite athlete you look up to?

Vladimir Litvintsev:
I have my favorites. First of all, the Canadian single skater, Olympic champion Patrick Chan. And the second is an American athlete – Nathan Chen. He competes at the Beijing Olympics, we will compete with him. (Smiling.) At the moment he is the best for me! Maybe we’ll compete with Nathan, not necessarily in Beijing, maybe in the future. I look forward to another Olympics!

Last night's Anaheim Ducks game doubled as an Olympic send off for the GPI skaters. Alexa and Brandon dropped the ceremonial first puck while Nathan and Mariah appeared in video messages. So far I haven't been able to find video footage of them.

I've never heard of Vladimir before, but he has great role models in Patrick Chan and Nathan Chen! Also nice to see that the Connecticut local news mentioned Nathan even though he hasn't been there in a while.

It's been awhile, but here's the tea as far as I remember. LOL

Some time around 2017, long before Nam and Keegan were even on speaking terms, the big Canadian bromance was Nam-Roman. They'd hang out together and were "shipped" by skating fans. One time they did an IG live together and during the session Nathan popped in and jokingly wrote, "Invite me to your wedding." Laughter and chaos ensued.

As for Mai's part, she and Nathan both won 4CC that year and I guess that's how they sort of met. Anyway, she visited his training base in California and the two met again at a show in Japan. Both times Nathan uploaded photos of the two of them together on his IG. In the comments of the 2nd photo Nam, in a tit-for-tat, wrote "Invite me to your wedding." More laughter and chaos, but many fans unaware of the previous joke took it to mean they were either a couple, or at the very least Nathan had a crush on Mai. From there the rumor spread like wildfire, especially within the Japanese figure skating fandom, and since then it has became a popular "ship."

It became so popular that it's believed the producers of The Ice in 2018 deliberately made Nathan and Mai partners for one the group numbers, and to this day there are still Japanese fans hoping to see the two of them together in a show or competition.
