Michelle Kwan visited with host Jackie Wong at icenetwork studios for a lengthy interview, during which the five-time world champion talked about her storied career, her work with the Special Olympics and her recent return to the ice.
Her interview starts after the 6-minute mark.

Absolutely enjoyed the interview. I enjoyed listening to Michelle discuss her past when she was very young. I can just envision her sister taking her by the arm, pushing her out in the rink and then letting go. Being just 4 years old and holding onto the wall ... falling in love with skating, and being the person she was yet to even dream of becoming. Little did she know that she would be a living legend, a true sportsman, and travel the world as an Envoy working with the youth, and working with the Olympics and Special Olympics. What an icon she has become, someone that the young skaters look up to and dream of being one day ...

I just finished watching the interview and I absolutely loved. It was seriously in-depth, organized, and Kwan was obviously very at ease here. She seems like she's in a really good place right now.

I just loved so many parts of the interview, including her talking about IJS and seeing how the skaters get into jump mode after 2 mins and her experience with trying to adapt to IJS and find herself actually counting rotations in spins for the first time, etc. I liked that she spoke about how how skaters needed to do what they needed to do to rack up points and it's smart even if it may not look the best or make choreographic sense just because you do need those points.

I love that Jackie is obviously a Kwan fan because he got her to speak about Miraculous Mandarin, Rush, Ariane, etc. and got her to talk about what it was like being coached by Raf. Interesting to hear Kwan talking about how Raf helped her with the entrances to her loop, Lutz, and Flip when they stopped being so consistent. I was also entertained by her call-back of "choreographic sense" when she joked that later in her career she just decided to put the triple loop first even though it was more common to put it in the "slow section" of one's program because she decided during those years to just get it out of the way first and hope it made choreographic sense.

Wonderful interview and it was great to hear from Michelle. Loved hearing about her getting back on the ice and her tush hurting
for five days after falling on the 2A. She said that she has no intention of doing any shows (darn).
Glad we will get to see her at the Olympics. Her story is truly an American Dream!
