And who still says that the climate change does not exist? Ok, it is not responsible for the earthquakes, but still...
I hope the victims in Mexico get help soon.
The Red Cross here is already acting.

Good grief! All we need now is for that super volcano under Yellowstone National Park to blow its top. Experts in the field and scientists are saying that it is just about due. OMG! :yikes:

I wonder if the earthquake is in any way connected to North Korea's nuclear tests as they were done underground and who knows what that does to the tectonic plates.

I have family in Southern Mexico/Northern Guatemala right along the ring of fire that definitely felt the earthquake (they even had a tsunami warning) . As I've discussed with family, all of his activity from Mother Nature feels like like she's to trying to cleanse herself :shuffle:

No, I think Russians hacked into the Earthquake network and accidentally caused the earthquake in the wrong place.

Are you a geologist? If so, then I'd be interested in a more factual answer.
My knowledge is that underground nuclear tests cause tremors/man-made earthquakes. Considering that and that all it takes is a tiny domino to set a chain reaction in motions, I find it entirely possible that the nuclear test could have been that domino. If you know scientific reasons for why that can't be the case, I'd like to hear it.

Because whole question is really on wrong premise. 1) You refer to domino chain reaction, if there was a chain reaction, where are the other earthquakes from North Korea leading up to Mexico. 2) Kaikora had multiple fault went off, but they were all next to each other, not half a world away. 3) why is the magnitude of earthquake bigger than that observed in North Korea. The seismometer recorded only 6.3 and why is the magnitude of EQ in Mexico coast at 8.1. So the Energy release is 500 times bigger than the original event. 4) Cyclone Irma also caused ground motion in the Islands it hit, why can't it be responsible based on your premise 5) Fracking causes huge amount of earthquake, especially the US based ones, it is closer to Mexico, why is that not the guilty party. 6) why didn't Chinese and Indian sub continental faults go off, they are closer.

There are plenty more i can add, but there is no method to transfer such energy from half a world away.

Last year there was a significant earthquake in Japan one day and then a significant earthquake in Ecuador the next day. I remember thinking the 2 might be linked but then I found an article saying that because the 2 places are so far apart and on separate fault systems it was pretty much impossible for them to be linked.

While I know fracking causes earthquakes, I live close to Fox Creek, Alberta where the oil companies had to suspend fracking operations because there were several quakes fairly close together and the last one, while not huge by any stretch, was still big enough that the companies out there had to suspend fracking operations before the government got involved. Has there ever been a fracking related quake bigger than around 5? Because I think I saw a couple in Oklahoma that were in the area of a 5 but I don't know that I've seen anything bigger than that which was linked to fracking.

There is evidence that there is a connection with earthquakes and the full moon. There was a full moon last Wednesday.

Is anyone in touch with @Braulio outside of FSU?

Hey @BittyBug thanks for asking!

I am ok, I live in Tijuana, far in the north of where things happened, but guess what? I was on vacation in Mexico City when everything happened! so I felt the earthquake, it was very strong but still we were safe and in an area with no tall buildings near so fortunately nothing more than the surprise of the moment

Right now I'm back home from my vacations and everything for us is ok

Once again I really appreciate your concern

Glad to hear you are safe. Thanks for letting us know.

Sorry for those who are affected by this earthquake.
