I did a search and couldn't find one of these for Mariah, so I thought it was time to start one. Congratulations to Mariah on the Nationals bronze medal -- and pulling up from sixth to get it! -- and the upcoming trip to Worlds! :cheer2: I hope this is the start of many good things for her.

Thanks for starting the thread. I have enjoyed Mariah's personality on the ice for several years, and it's such a pleasure to see her mastering her technique to become a well-rounded skater. I'm glad that fans around the world will have a chance to enjoy her performances because she has a truly unique quality. From what I see of her reactions to occasional mistakes and Rafael's tough love in the K&C, she seems to keep an even keel emotionally, so I think she can become a very reliable competitor for the US.

Mariah's skate last night was an inspiration! I thought she was done after the opening mistakes, and then she gave us the most gorgeous skate! I'm thrilled she's on the podium and going to Worlds!

I thought the same thing after the opening mistakes, and then she came back so strongly! That long program is a beauty and she sells the heck out of it. If she can go clean with it at Worlds, I think we just might have a good chance of hanging on to those three spots.

Congrats to Mariah - she has had a great year and hope this will give her new confidence and help her build toward next year.

This is the first year that Mariah has been on my radar. She makes me smile. I'm a new fan for sure!

She's been around for a while but I really discovered her at SKAM 2016. And her SP was my favorite program of this comp, fall be damned. She sold it with such genuine joy of skating and performing. Kudos to Raf and Rohene.

I am really thrilled with our World and 4CC team.

I liked Mariah since her little talks program. Glad she is getting a little more consistent.

This chick has made a believer in me.

Her first few senior seasons I couldnt see anything most of you all saw.

Since SA I have been on board 100%. I love the choreography Rohene did for her too.

I see her as a podium contender for all her events in the future.

When she makes a mistake she does not come unglued like manyyyy other skaters.

She has IT!

Mariah Bell article in the Denver Post (by John Meyer, published 1/24/17): http://www.denverpost.com/2017/01/24/ralston-valley-grad-mariah-bell-olympic-figure-skating/
Bell moved several times growing up, relocating from Houston to Westminster [CO] when she was 12 so she and her older sister, Morgan, could train under Cindy Sullivan. Morgan now skates for Disney on Ice. They moved to Colorado with their mother while their father remained in Houston for work. He came to Colorado on weekends when he could.
“We’ve been together 30 years,” said Kendra. “I never thought I would be that parent that would have a different ZIP code from my husband, but it’s not about me.”
...
Her mother concedes the idea of the Olympics is “very exciting” but “nerve-racking,” too.
“There’s so many factors that go into it,” Kendra said. “You have to keep them healthy. You have to keep them at the point where they can still go out and perform. There’s a lot of very talented U.S. ladies right now. She has to continue to perform.”

By virtue of the fact that she repeats the 3Z and 3F, and performs the 3F-1L-3S in the bonus section of the LP, does she have the highest BV of US women?

What's your frame of reference? Gold's FS at last seasaon's Natonals had a higher base value than Bell's at this season's Nationals, but I'm not sure that a clean Gold would have had a higher Base Value than Bell this year.

I've replied to olympic in the U.S. Ladies thread in GSD here: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/in...e-ladies-who-flutz.99866/page-24#post-4999957

Here's Mariah's "Rise Up" (Andra Day) from the Skate America exhibition gala last October via British Eurosport: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoWecMW4X4E

I meant in regard to BV w/o GOE

My reference to "clean" had to go with executing triple and double jumps as planned, with no doubling of triples, no pops, no underrotations, and no downgrades. I do understand what Base Value is.

OK. Yeah. I wasn't questioning your understanding of BV. Definitely not.
