Lubov is ...

I'm so happy for both of them. Now, for Massot's German citizenship and my Olympics are complete (I've sadly given up on Mervin).

Luba had such a climb up from the anorexia and issue with the Russian Fed and just the change in her physical condition alone has made her move to Canada worthwhile, but for she and Dylan to have the opportunity to skate at the Olympics is just the perfect icing on the cake. Thank you Canada.

Congrats to Lubov! Such a wonderful partnership and being embraced by a new country couldn't have happened to a more deserving person. Enjoy living your figure skating dream Luba!

Uh, do you mean you've given up on Mervin becoming a U.S. citizen? (He's already become a permanent resident of the U.S.) Or, do you mean you've given up on Mervin, the skater? If so, and for whatever reason, that is definitely sad. Warm wishes to Mervin, and to his U.S. partner, Marissa! Skaters, friends and family need our support the most when they hit rough patches, not as much when they are flying high with success and happy prospects.

If Luba didn't have the support, love and encouragement from fans and friends when she was forced to sit out from skating for a few years, she would not be where she is today.

Not to speak for rfisher, but I think she's giving up on Mervin getting citizenship in time for 2022. He has to be a permanent resident for five years (and live in the U.S. for a continuous amount of time within those five years) before he can apply for citizenship and the five year mark is after Beijing. Who knows what they're planning though?

That's why I asked what was meant. The comment could be interpreted in different ways. It's still no reason to 'give up' on Mervin or on M&M. Under the present circumstances of harsh immigration stances being taken in the U.S., I can see 'giving up' on the hope that Mervin might be able to become a citizen in time to make a U.S. Olympic team. But then, Mervin and Marissa knew going into their partnership that Olympic dreams might not come true for them as a team. They spoke about trying, but also about focusing more on making Worlds and doing well there.

At this juncture, they are obviously still trying for Mervin to become a U.S. citizen, and I'm sure they are trying to figure out and resolve the technical snafus that have been holding them back competitively. In both endeavors, they have my full support and well wishes. :) Who knows what might happen politically down the road that could end up speeding up the citizenship process for Mervin, especially should they begin to excel competitively and raise their profile as a successful team?
