LOL I'm the opposite - love the European clay court season and then the grass. The US series is my least favourite time of the tennis year.
 
LOL I've never been so happy about a Mixed doubles result as I am here. Love Heather Watson, and she teamed up with a hot Finn. Does it get any better?! :cheer:

Two British winners in one day, and two titles for Serena yesterday. Good Wimbledon for me :D
 
I think the U.S. Open suffers from bloat, but tacky? I think that's a stretch.

When I lived in NYC, one job I worked at was in a store in the Marriott in Times Square, where many officials, fans and players stayed. They all loved the atmosphere of the Open. As for me, I loved when they still played the US Open on grass. Yes, I'm old. :shuffle:
 
The US Open is one of the things I miss from when I lived in Brooklyn. Of course it's not Wimbledon but ITA tacky is a big stretch. I loved the globe and surrounding fountain, honey deuces, carnegie deli sandwiches and browsing the Lacoste store.
 
One of my bucket list items is to make it to all four majors. Of course it'd help to go overseas in the first place. :P Someday...
 
Wimbledon is my favourite but I do like the US Opens evening sessions under the floodlights - sometimes they can go on into the early morning hours and there have been come fabulous matches with an amazing atmosphere. I use to love tuning into them - either sitting in a bar having a drink or in my pj's at home on the sofa :D

This is basically why I love the AO and USO...simply bc of the night matches and the atmosphere it can bring.
 
In the old days (...i.e the 90's/00's) they used to have a really nice indoor season for the women, post-USO, mainly in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. They were held on carpet courts - a fast, low-bouncing surface, which really lends itself to good, attacking, exciting tennis. Such a shame they scrapped them for barely-attended HC events in China. There are now 9 WTA events a year in China - total overkill IMO. Plus, there's been too much surface homogenisation - all the surfaces play relatively similarly to each other now. Twenty plus years ago, there was much greater definition between clay, hard, grass and indoor. Meanwhile, carpet has all but disappeared :(
 
Vika Azarenka is pregnant :eek: she's obviously going to be out for a while but is hoping to come back after she has the baby!
 
Apparently she announced this news by Twitter? :lol: Sounds like she is due at the end of the year, so probably out through the Australian Open at least. Congrats to her and her boyfriend.

Well, she also picked up a knee injury during the clay season. Vika is so injury prone :fragile: as her fan, she always seems as very driven and hard working but her body lets her down a lot.

Idk who her boyfriend is but apparently it's this guy and he seems hot :grope:

One interesting thing I think alot of people dont realize is Serena is on the verge of catching/passing Graf's consecutive weeks at #1 record. Graf is at 186, Serena at 179. If Serena enters the U.S Open ranked #1 she is certain to atleast tie it, and if she ends the U.S Open still ranked #1 she will break it. Interesting note if she loses #1 based on her U.S Open result she will end up dead tied with Graf at 186. Just to note that is a record Graf set long before the Seles stabbing so has no possible correlation to that at all (for those obsessed with that for Graf's numbers).
 
Congrats to Johanna Konta for winning her first WTA title in Stanford beating Venus Williams in 3 sets. She was a set up and 4-1 up in the but Venus fought back to take the game into a decider. Johanna got her nerves under control and took the final set 6-2. :cheer2:
 
So, I'm planning on going to the US Open, during the men and women's quarters. What are the better seats--behind the server or on the side?

I am not an expert, but I prefer to sit behind the server if I have a choice. This way I see rallies and angles of the shots better. But I am curious to also hear opinions of other posters in this thread.

I prefer the sides. You get to see both players equally and it's a different angle than what you're used to seeing on TV. It's like the 50-yard line in football, IMO.
