Searchlight Pictures just released the poster for A Complete Unknown.

Good gawd. This just screams: “TIMOTHÉE WANTS AN OSCAR!!!” 🤩

Keep in mind that we also have serious Oscar buzz for Daniel Craig (Queer), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Joaquin Phoenix (Joker: Folie à Deux), and Paul Mescal (Gladiator II), plus who knows who else.

If Chalamet ends up doing his career like Bradley Cooper, I’m going to be so disappointed. 😔

I'm actually getting excited for this movie. I hope he does Dylan justice. As a Minnesotan born and bred, Bob Dylan is pretty iconic to me.

As for Timmy jonesing for an Oscar... I personally think he should have been recognized for Dune Part 2. But what do I know.

I find it amusing that we got a trailer for "The Apprentice" on the day of the presidential debate. Well-timed.

Is anyone excited to see the last showgirl? The article I read over the weekend said that possibly get used to hearing the phrase Oscar nominee, Pamela Anderson!!

It’s also said that once again, Jamie Lee Curtis also turns in a brilliant performance

I have heard the Kidman movie is not that great but I hear the Daniel Craig movie Queer is great

Craig leaves it all out there, literally and figuratively. It's a total transformation unlike anything we've ever seen him do before, at least onscreen (he's a wonderful stage actor too). Rolling Stone called it "the role of a lifetime" and "a milestone in his career," while The Hollywood Reporter's review described Craig's efforts as "a transfixing performance."

Babygirl is scheduled to be in theaters on December 25, which puts it in direct competition with A Complete Unknown (Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothée Chalamet).

Queer was just acquired by A24 for distribution. I haven’t seen a release date, yet, but a lot of people on the oscarrace subreddit are upset that it seems like A24 has dropped Sing Sing as their “big campaign” for the awards season. Apparently, Colman Domingo is fantastic in that film.

Here are the awards from the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival! 🇨🇦

People's Choice Film
Winner: The Life of Chuck - Mike Flanagan
First Runner Up: Emilia Pérez - Jacques Audiard
Second Runner Up: Anora - Sean Baker

People's Choice Documentary
Winner: The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal - Mike Downie
First Runner Up: Will & Harper - Josh Greenbaum
Second Runner Up: Your Tomorrow - Ali Weinstein

🎥 🍿 🤔
From what I've seen on Reddit The Life of Chuck winning People's Choice Film shakes some things up Oscar wise. No one was really expecting it to win. I think Anora, Emilia Pérez and The Brutalist were the favourites.

Not at all shocked at a Tragically Hip doc winning there. They are/were one of the biggest bands in Canada.

I’m not sure now how the Oscars will shake up. Aren’t the Golden Globe nominations typically announced in early/mid December? The problem is when Nightb***h (December 6), Babygirl (December 20), and A Complete Unknown (December 25) are expected to release in theaters.

From what I understand Nightbitch isn't likely to be much of a player. The Life of Chuck does need to a distributor though that is true. Mike Flanagan has a deal with Amazon now for his shows, maybe they'll want to give him a shot on an Oscar run.

And……we have another teaser trailer for Megalopolis!

There’s an IMAX special event of this movie (with live interviews of Coppola and others) on Monday night, 9/23 in select theaters. I’m considering going seeing this early on Thursday evening. I’m thinking this will either be spectacular or FLOP. No middle ground.
It could be both. I'm expecting a record-breaking weekend because of the epic train wreck factor.

Well, coming out of the festivals, a lot of the critics’ reviews about Joker: Folie à Deux have been very mixed. But when I look at showings at the AMCs and Regals in my area (Northern Virginia), there’s times for almost every hour from 10/3 to 10/6.

I guess this means that Megalopolis has only about one week to make a statement. Saturday Night (10/11) is opening nationwide the week after Joker. And then we’ll be getting practically nonstop floods of everything that’s being campaigned for awards season.
