"Legacy on Ice" benefit show in D.C. (March 2, 2025) and ways to help those affected by the air tragedy over the Potomac River

The closest hotel to the Capital One Arena (within walking distance) is the Hotel Monaco. I stayed there many times when I attended weekend Women of Faith conferences at the arena with my Mother and sister.

Hotel prices are scary high, I see. There are a few cheaper places around Dupont Circle (safe neighborhood, three stops on Metro Red line.) Morrison-Clark at 11th and L is where my family stays for holidays, it’s usually reasonably priced. Either a 7 block walk or 1 Metro stop on Green line at 7th and L.

Morrison Clark is historic and really nice. Probably the best value for the proximity. If price is more important than proximity, the historic Hotel Lombardy is usually a good value. It’s in Foggy Bottom near GW University about a 30-40 minute walk (past the White House) or a 15 minute taxi/Uber.

I've recommended hotels in Crystal City when friends have wanted to visit DC but didn't want to pay high prices for a room. I tell them to look for one near one of three metro stops--Reagan National Airport, Crystal City, or Pentagon--and take the metro into DC.

The last time we visited DC we stayed in Crystal City and found it incredibly easy to get around via Metro.

that is my favourite hotel in DC! I went to an amazing wedding there, each day you came into the lobby they had complimentary wine tasting and such beautiful public areas.

At Middlebury College ice show this weekend, Ting Cui and Emmanuel Savary skated a duet as a tribute to those on Flight 5342.
Ting shared a snippet on Instastory.
Middlebury has another show today (Sunday) at 1:30 pm.

( Ting and Emmanuel [as guest skater] both gave solo performances as well. )

"Support the Family of Edward Zhou and his Parents"

From the GoFundMe organizer:
... This campaign is dedicated to supporting the extended Zhou family with essential expenses and the family also hopes to establish a memorial scholarship in Eddie's honor. ..."

Edward “Eddie” Zhou STEM and Figure Skating Enrichment Fund

"... This fund aims to provide funding for a local middle or high school skater, preferably with financial need, pursuing skating or STEM program opportunities outside of their regular training and academic environment. All funds raised would go toward funding this scholarship, to be awarded annually to a student-skater. We hope to keep Eddie’s joyful skating spirit and intellectual curiosity alive for many years to come. ..."

(This Arlingon Community Foundation page for making donations has a vivid description of Eddie as a person, student, and skater. Beautiful to read. 💔)

From SkateQuest account on Instagram:

"With the support of the Arlington Community Foundation, the Edward “Eddie” Zhou STEM and Figure Skating Enrichment Fund has been established to support [NoVa] middle and high school skaters pursuing STEM and figure skating opportunities.

Led by Eddie’s uncle, Mr. Jin Zhou, this effort aims to raise $10,000 to carry on his passion for learning and skating. ..."

List of performers/appearances:

Here's the full list -

My old crush Ilia Kulik? I haven’t seen him skate in 20 years. Very curious.

I’m not going for the lineup so much as to support the families and community but yikes what an assortment of past and present talent.

ETA: what’s the asterisk for Ilia, Kristi and Alysa?

Asterisks were for skaters that had already been announced earlier.

USFS has put a link on their YouTube channel for the show on March 2nd - I believe it is only meant to be available outside the USA, based on a post by Jackie Wong
