I just finished reading "Start By Believing" and I am once again STUNNED at how many opportunities there were to put Larry in a very small box, but those opportunities were not taken.

I'm so proud of Simone for using her position to speak out - I'm sure this takes an emotional toll on her and affects her training, etc. I hope all the brave survivors continue to push for accountability and transparency.

I suspect that Simone loves competing more than I love pasta, but wouldn’t it be a kick in USAG’s ass if she refused to participate in camp, donned her teal leo, and just sat in the middle of the floor with Lee and McCusker? That might be the only thing that gets them to stop talking to the lawyers and start doing what’s right.

Not at camp. They should do it in competition.

She should threaten to move to the NCAA track. :D (I know she wouldn't because of the Olympics but it would be good to see USAG's head explode at the idea that she might not be there because she's competing with her college team.)

Actually she can't because she's gone pro. But I support basically any for of protest at this point.

USAGym has suspended Victoria Levine. She co-owns the gym with Maggie Haney.

What a mess. The program needs to be completely scrapped - wipe the slate entirely clean. Nothing short of starting from scratch should be considered. Safe Sport first and always. The problem is, there are still too many nefarious characters circling the wagons. Absolutely sickening. Toss the match, already.

ETA: the fact that they’ve refused to do this thorough housekeeping to save the sport and its credibility speaks volumes.

Justice Department says investigation of FBI’s handling of Larry Nassar case remains ongoing
Office of the Inspector General investigation began 22 months ago
By Scott M. Reid
Between August and October 2018, Office of the Inspector General investigators and FBI agents from local field offices interviewed Olympic champions Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney and Jordyn Wieber, and Maggie Nichols, a 2015 World champion, and their parents about the FBI’s investigation of Nassar, according to interviews and documents obtained by the Southern California News Group.
The Justice Department, however, still has not released the OIG report on the FBI’s role in the Nassar scandal a year and a half after the OIG official leading the investigation told parties in the case that the investigators’ report had been forwarded to the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section. Two federal prosecutors in the PIS also confirmed they had received the report nearly a year ago, an attorney involved in the case said.
“The Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General is investigating the allegations concerning the FBI’s handling of the Nassar investigation, and the victims and the public should rest assured our findings will be made public at the end of our investigation,” Stephanie M. Logan, senior public affairs specialist for the Office of the Inspector General, said in an email to SCNG last month.

Re-posting the Orange County Register article by Scott M. Reid here:
Terin Humphrey has now come forward as a Nassar survivor.

Warning: There are graphic details in the linked OC Register article. I wanted to warn anyone here that would need to know this before they read the article.
While [Terin] Humphrey, later an NCAA champion at Alabama, served as an athlete representative for USA Gymnastics between 2009 and 2019 and member of the Olympic and World Championships teams selection committee and continued to have an uneasy feeling around Nassar, she did not come to terms with her sexual assault until memories of the abuse were triggered by treatment for her pregnancy last year, according to Humphrey and a sworn statement under penalty of perjury by psychiatrist who examined her earlier this month. Humphrey said she was unable to even tell her husband, Uriah Holcomb, about the abuse until last month.

I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it must have been for Terin to carry that weight around all these years. My heart breaks after learning what she had encountered. How strong she is to have come forward, as painful and trying as it was. I have so much respect for Terin, and I hope and pray that she finds herself in a peaceful place very soon. Enjoy and embrace that beautiful daughter who will someday know what a courageous mom she has.

(((Terin))) 🙏

I know we have some lawyers on FSU. What are the legal issues here? All I can think of is that if they keep adding people to the case, it might never get to trial. Otherwise, it seems weird.

Judicial economy, cases have filing deadlines so that they can move forward to a finish. Terin had plenty of notice of the case and the ability to know the filing deadlines. While she concedes that she was well aware of the case and its deadlines, she says she didn't realize she too was abused until she had treatment for her pregnancy. I don't know how the judge will rule on that. The lawyers are trying to protect the shares of those who filed timely - if Terin succeeds, many more could be out there to make the same arguments.
