I missed it this time. I was too sick to travel there, but it seems the event was a success, so there could be more skating comps in Vegas. I could make it there in the future, hopefully.

There are designated non-smoking areas in casinos in Las Vegas. The one in the Orleans was located close to the back doors so fresh air poured in every time the doors opened. No one had to walk through the casino to get to the arena - there were doors 10 steps from the elevators that offered a quick walk outside.

But once you're outside the smokers are right there by the doors. It was very difficult to escape from the smoke/smoking. That was the one thing that bothered me the most. Otherwise the arena was one of the best and the view from the balcony was great (you have to catch it when there are no smokers out there).

Does anyone have intel on rumored hosts for the next SA? Seems a lot of people talking online about the possibility of a return to Vegas but it’s probably just wishful thinking. Personally loved the venue and experience.

Seems odd though on-brand for the org that USFS doesn’t immediately capitalize on marketing to SA attendees to preorder tickets to the next year’s event...

It’s US figure skating. They are living in fantasyland where if they just wait someone will show up and throw tons and tons of money at them to allow this event to come to their arena.Have you ever seen their request for proposals for things like skate America? Fantasyland apparently resides in Colorado Springs. LOL

Apparently you must’ve stayed a lot of hotels. Because I can tell you that if you walk outside the door at any Marriott Hilton Bubba Gump hotel, there are a lot of people standing around right close to the door smoking.

Actually have always found it rather entertaining but everyone was so happy that all hotel rooms are non-smoking. When all they really did was increase the fact that they have to walk through the smoking area to get to their car or transportation

I walked in and out of those doors many times every day and rarely saw anyone smoking in that area.

Rumors are 2020 Skate America is headed to a southern state but hopefully USFS rethink that plan and return to Las Vegas next year.

If they are in Las Vegas for 2020, lock a room down ASAP. The Raiders will be in their new stadium next fall and if they have a home game that weekend I imagine room rates will be through the roof. Several Uber drivers also shared with me that they will not be working on home game days until they determine how chaotic it will be.

Where did that rumor come from? I'd be all for it! We haven't had an event of any sort down here since Nats 2004 in Atlanta.
