The website says it's still sold out. :( Maybe I will try calling.

I just looked. I can book today. Same rate as yesterday.

Option 2. Go to their website. On the booking page under the "find rooms" button you will see "do you have a code". Click there and enter A9FSC10, that takes you back to booking, put in your dates... Got the same $49 Thru, $119 Fri and Sat rates for a room with 2 queen beds. (No $99 a night rooms for Friday/Saturday appear to be left)

Also, note the rate on the website does not include the mandatory resort fee or taxes.

The website also says the front row packages for tickets are sold out... apparently ticketmaster doesn't know that. You can't buy the all event but I found seats if you wanted to the 'discipline' packages yesterday. (I am holding off on tickets hoping that since there seem to be a LOT of empty seats USFS will offer a deal!)

Thank you!!

I tend to book things for skating events last minute as I never know 100% if I can go til it's closer, so it's always stressful

What are people's thoughts on the Gold Coast Hotel? The reviews on tripadvisor aren't stellar.

Despite having been to Vegas many times, I never heard of this place. So I checked Yelp and the the reviews weren't great on there either. I'd be concerned about sanitary conditions.

I have never stayed there but from what I have seen I don't think I would!
For anyone who is still looking for a hotel, I am selling two hotel packages to benefit Alysa Liu. Private brunch wirh Alysa is included! Package one features two bedroom suite at Orleans, Oct 17 to 21. Package two includes two bedroom suite at Caesars Palace, Oct 17 to 21. All proceeds go to Alysa's training fund. PM me for more details.

While I appreciate what you’re doing, I feel this Is kind of inappropriate. I don’t know that FSU should be turned into a fundraising board for every skater who honestly deserves it

Maybe put things in an identified thread only - Admins???
I appreciate what sjs5572 is doing - but many of us are paying for this board - and if requests like this grow to many in multiple threads - it could be bothersome. Just my 2 cents.

who has personally donated thousands of dollars to Alysa's training (going back to when she competed as a novice). I think it would be great if other fans took a more active approach in supporting American skaters

Ooof. So sorry that most people don't have just thousands of dollars to spare. In this economy?

You might want to drop the holier-than-thou attitude if you want people to take up your fundraisers. It raises questions.

Well, I am donating the hotel stays through my Las Vegas connections. Those purchasing the package would pay less than booking directly through hotel for identical suites. In addition, I am an active poster, and a run-of-the-mill fan, who has personally donated thousands of dollars to Alysa's training (going back to when she competed as a novice). I think it would be great if other fans took a more active approach in supporting American skaters, who are at a structural disadvantage compared to the Russian system. I frankly am disappointed in the lack of grass roots fundraising for up and coming skaters. I see a lot of hand-wringing about the state of US figure skating, but not a lot of action to raise money.

And how do you know they don’t? Maybe they don’t need to brag about it?

And do we really want a fundraiser for every deserving skater on here is my question? Which skaters are deserving? I agree with an earlier post. Maybe the admins could allow a thread where people could post info on fundraising etc..... then you would have a place to post your recurring fundraising for your deserving skater.

Frankly, get off your high horse.

The hypocrisy of what you’re saying is so blatantly obvious, you’re either trolling us or you truly can’t self reflect for one second to see it.

Cynical posters think I have an alterior motive to personally benefit from fundraisers. I was (apparently ineffectively) explaining that I have contributed myself, and was not just recklessly asking for donations from other posters. I have a long posting history on this board, including hosting several non-fundraising dinners at Nationals and Worlds. I thought I had built up enough cred in the community to not have my motives questioned. I did not realize there was a separate thread for fundraisers, (thanks Sylvia), so I will delete my postings on this thread that can be deleted.

In a related note, and I am being totally earnest, what is the most effective way to promote a fundraiser for a skater? GoFundMe is for pure donations. Ebay seems too mainstream to attract fans' attention. The fundraising thread on this site seems too remote to really be effective. Does anyone have any ideas?

I don't think you need to post again ;) in the thread I bumped up.

I think you mean well but your wording was't ideal. :)

No, it wasn't an "alterior motive" that was being criticized. The criticism was because of your insulting suggestion that US skaters are falling behind because fans don't donate enough financial support.

Lots of people on this board have contributed to supporting skating and skaters in many ways, including thousands of hours of unpaid volunteer work at test days, club events, and competitions. Supporting skaters doesn't just mean making cash donations.

You're right. I should not have responded in this way. In the end, I thnk we're all on the same side. That being said, I really wish more money was available to American athletes in this very expensive sport.

On a sad note … :(
Monet was recently selected to be a “Golden Sweeper” for Skate America at Orleans Arena in October.

"That's the little girls who go on the ice and pick up the tossies that are tossed on the ice for the big, world class skaters. So she was very excited. She got her gold dress last week and was looking forward to that and I know that the other skaters were too. So we're really sad she won’t be with us," said figure skating judge Amelia Keene.

I have a few questions for those who are familiar with the area:

- How cold is the rink? Considering the climate in Las Vegas, I don't want to bring heavy coast if possible.

- The Orleans does not guarantee if I can get a non-smoking room. They say 25% of their rooms are smoking room. The smell of cigarettes is not just an annoyance, but a health issue for me. Are there good hotels nearby that are entirely non-smoking?

This topic came up again a page or so back if you want to scroll back and read.

Suggested earlier in this thread:
People looking for a completely smoke free environment may want to consider staying at Vdara hotel. It doesn't have a casino at all, and the entire property is smoke free.

Aria does have a casino which allows smoking, but they also have an air filtration system that seems to minimize the impact compared to other hotels on the Strip.

Las Vegas is a desert, but it's a high desert so it's sunny but not particularly warm a lot of the year (it can be downright bone chilling in the winter with the wind howling down the valley, and a lot of the hotels only keep their pools open seasonally). Check the average temps for the Skate America dates -- looks like mostly high 70s during the day but the mid 50s at night (the temperature can drop quickly after sunset -- one of the big differences between a dry climate and a humid climate). If it's in the 50s outside it's going to be even cooler inside. I remember when Skate America was in Ontario, California and it was cold in the rink and in the 80s outside; we were stripping off layers as we walked across the concourse from the seating areas to the exits. All that said, I think layers are better than a heavy coat.
