A lot of youth today have been raised on 8th place medals and non-competitive games. In the future, podium sulks will become more frequent. We've already seen inklings of poor sportsmanship from people like Galit Chait's father who threatened coaches and skaters after a competition, death threats to judges etc..

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a smackdown at an awards ceremony in figure skating or gymnastics at a national or international level in the near future. Parents are already fighting in the stands over their kids' place on the team or performance.

Surya still holds the record for podium sulks. Ashley seemed perfectly reasonable...and a whole lot more composed than I would have been. Coming in fourth at the pre-Olympics Nationals --just like in 2014 -- had to be her absolute nightmare.

Why is it in a world where we make fun of the Presidents hair, allow ignorant overpaid football players to disrespect the National anthem and all who died for our country, and give a family of whores a long running television program do we expect a woman who just had her dream crushed by mostly biased judging to be all gracious and smiling. You seem awful ignorant about what the football players are protesting against. It is racism and police violence they are protesting against. It has nothing to do with insulting the veterans or the flag.

If you are so upset about Ashley's Olympic dream, did you forget that she competed in the Olympics in 2014 while Mirai was denied (not Ashley's fault). This time all she had to do was land her jumps. She didn't and Karen did. Karen had a few ur but Ashley singled a 3 salchow, which is a much costlier error. The placements were fair and denying Karen the Olympic berth would have been very unfair. As Ashley herself said last year, we have 3 spots for ladies because of Karen's 4th place at last year's worlds.

I saw the medal ceremony and have no idea where these comments are coming from. She was extremely classy to the other medalists (hugged and congratulated them all) and was very composed on the podium, even if she was, I'm sure devastated. I didn't see any rudeness to the panel.

I am not sure what the problem is. If the skater hasn't been with the coach for many years, that is a long time ago and should have no impact on the person's ability to do their job.

Thank you. Wow I didn't know Ricardo Olavarrieta was the technical specialist for the men's event, he is the last skater from my country to have skated at an Olympic Games (1992) though I remember his time as a tv commentator and was VERY BIASED with anything related to russian skaters....

Well these things I know I guess I was too curt in my previous post ... I just meant that this is not that really offensive when one compares her to ''whore'' when we know that it was her sex tape that made her famous at first that was not exactly ''accidental'' and well ... her whore style (aka vulgar) is what she has a penchant for anyway all the time. She's a whore in public reception as far as I know even with her ''attention whore'' lifestyle that she sells which is ... fake anyway but dumb people crave for that and she's a hero for some of those. Don’t tell that to Kolyada! Sometimes the oddest, most unexpected things happen at an Olympics (Urmanov in ‘94, for ex.).

But he is one of two technical specialists and then there is the technical controller (who I believe calls the elements). Even if he has some bias there are another two people right there as well.

As an after thought, under 6.0 I think Ashley might gave won after singling the salchows, but under the iJS this was a very costly mistake.
