The Heisman Trophy Trust announced Oct. 23 that former U.S. figure skating champion and Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi will be awarded the 14th annual Heisman Humanitarian Award in recognition of her service and dedication to underprivileged youth.
“The Heisman Trophy Trust is pleased to recognize Kristi Yamaguchi with the 2019 Heisman Humanitarian Award for her tremendous work,” stated Mike Comerford, President of the Heisman Trust. “Yamaguchi’s dedication to improving childhood literacy for less fortunate youth aligns perfectly with the mission of the Heisman Trust. There are children throughout our country in need of assistance. By shining a greater light on Kristi’s tremendous example, we hope that others may follow her lead.”
Yamaguchi is widely known for her hard work and dedication throughout her figure skating career. She initially started skating as therapy for her club feet, but it quickly developed into a passion for the sport.
Aside from her figure skating career, Yamaguchi has also been a philanthropic champion for many years. In 1996, she founded the Always Dream Foundation to support underprivileged children. Foundation programs have included sponsoring summer camps for children with disabilities, establishing after-school programs, setting up holiday parties for children, and distributing financial support for underprivileged children to purchase back-to-school supplies.
...
To date, the Always Dream Foundation has served over 10,000 students and partnered with 26 schools in California, Arizona and Hawaii, providing 21st-century technology and literacy resources.
The Heisman Trophy Trust is delighted to welcome Yamaguchi into the Heisman family. She will receive her award, along with a $75,000 contribution to the Always Dream Foundation, at the 85th annual Heisman Memorial Trophy Dinner Gala on Sunday, Dec. 15, in New York City.

ETA that Mia Hamm was the only other female athlete to have won this award (2009) since its inception in 2006.

The City Center Bishop Ranch in San Ramon will kick off the 2019 holiday season with the Nov. 15 opening of the Kristi Yamaguchi Holiday Ice Skating Rink, that will run through Jan. 5, 2020.
The one-and-only, outdoor ice rink in the Tri-Valley will celebrate its grand opening Friday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m. with Kristi Yamaguchi, the 1992 Olympic gold-medal winner in women's figure skating and an East Bay native, hosting the ceremony, according to organizers.
The festivities will include a holiday skating performance, "An Icy Christmas," with young, up-and-coming local skaters, including Yamaguchi's daughter, Emma Hedican.
A portion of ticket sales will benefit Yamaguchi's "Always Dream Foundation," a local, non-profit committed to innovative reading programs and early childhood literacy.

alwaysdream Heisman pose, but instead of a ? we use ?! Our founder and visionary with a heart of gold, @kristiyamaguchi is heading to New York to accept the 2019 Heisman Humanitarian Award! ??We are so inspired by her passion and dedication in helping over 10,000 students reach for their dreams. Following the amazing @mia_hamm_, Kristi is only the second female athlete to ever receive this recognition. Thank you to the @heismantrophy committee for this tremendous honor, AND a gift of $75,000 to give more students a strong start. Please join us in congratulating Kristi by furthering our work with a donation to our students!

I've been to one the holiday season rink she was hosting, some years ago, it's a lovely event, with lots of very nice and intelligent people. And all kids behave very well, and it is quite pleasant for skating (even if the size is small).

I never knew that Kristi did all that work with underprivileged youth. Good for her, and congratulations. A whole of successful, wealthy athletes/celebrities do not give back to community in such a dedicated way.

Congratulations to Kristi! What a well-deserved honor. Kristi's had her Always Dream Foundation for several years now. She started her foundation to help with the cause of literacy for children in under-served communities and low income families. And for this, I have the deepest admiration for her.

As mentioned up above by @Sylvia and @Tinami Amori, there is also information about her Holiday Rinks in San Ramon, San Jose and Honolulu at her Always Dream Foundation.

Donations can also be made at her Always Dream Foundation.

Reviving this thread to share this NBC Asian America article/interview that was published on Oct. 24, 2020:
Excerpts:
Yamaguchi’s Always Dream Foundation has been working to help increase the time kids spend reading during the c0ronavirus p*ndemic. The group provides tablets stocked with digital books, as well as internet access through a mobile data plan, to students in need. Its programs were already adapted for home learning, but with additions like virtual orientation and Facebook Live storytime, they've seen an increase of 15 to 20 percent in minutes read per day.
The organization — which focuses on California, Arizona and Hawaii — has recently provided tablets to five new schools, helping 600 students.
NBC Asian America: The program is very inclusive. Can you talk about the groups receiving the tablets?
Yamaguchi: Our program is bilingual. It’s delivered in English and Spanish, or both, and about 35 percent of our target population we serve is primarily Spanish-speaking at home.
We serve Hawaii as well, and several schools on O‘ahu. We do work with Kamehameha publishing, which is the largest Hawaiian publisher. They help provide relevant books for the Hawaiian population, with a focus on Pacific Islander stories, and also some books in Native Hawaiian, which we've had requests for. Hawaii is like a second home to me and my family. We saw the need, resource-wise and achievement-wise, and decided as an organization to serve that population. Because we have many friends and connections in Hawaii, we felt we could gain the support we needed to bring the program there.
Because we're small and nimble, and we really want to pay attention and listen to what our students and families want and need and what will help them become more engaged in the program.

Kristi is Polina Edmunds' latest podcast guest :):
This episode is with Kristi Yamaguchi. We talk about the triple-triple combo, her life in professional shows after the Olympics, and her philanthropy: the Always Dream Foundation!

I came across this hour-long chat between Kristi & Scott Hamilton that was uploaded on Oct. 27 (part of his "Live Your Days" series on YT that was launched back in September - she's the only figure skater he's featured so far): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcbZzOrexIQ

Just yesterday Kristi posted her congratulations to her husband, Bret, on completing his college degree: https://www.instagram.com/p/CIkBUzyJO07/

I watched that video w/Scott last week - loved it so much! She also was interviewed by Boomer Esiason for his TV show Game Time - unfortunately when it was set to air in Nov. it was pre-empted here by election coverage so I never got to see it. His site lists her episode but it isn't one of the ones you can watch on the site (You can find Boitano and Rippon's previous episodes on the site).

However I did find an audio only version of it. Here's a link to that:
