I was just surprised that they didnt' at least acknowledge that two of Canada's top 3 teams were not present... even a "With FB-S & L&L not here this week, this is an amazing opportunity for 3-4 teams to have a crack at the podium." That's all that had to be said...but instead it was like neither team even existed. I found it very weird.

It does seem odd not to mention the reigning Canadian Champions, and the reigning Canadian Silver Medalists, and why they're not competing. This is where the conflict of interest between a broadcaster presenting an event, and an event produced by the organization itself.

I think even if the event had been televised by CBC and not Skate Canada (at least that's my understanding of televised), the legal risk of discussing a case that is under investigation would make it inadvisable to comment. Kaitlyn is an employee and therefore not free to comment without legal implications to her employer. FWIW I objected to M-F speaking out because she is the public face of I-AM.
Should Kaitlyn not be an employee, she would not be the face of the employer-then I see that she could speak freely (but without knowledge of the situation it's rumor).

They made constant mention that there would be a new Canadian Men’s champion. K/K could have been allowed to mention that, because FB/S and L/L withdrew before the competition, there would be new teams on the national podiums for the first time/opportunities for new teams/let’s see who will step up, and then they could each have spoken about their own first time on the podium experiences. By grouping both withdrawals together, they wouldn’t have had to reference the case. By ignoring the two major withdrawals, there was an elephant in the room, IMO.

@kwanfan1818 I agree that it could have been done that way, but I think that would have drawn criticism for not mentioning why the withdrawals happened. IMO just not mentioning it was the safer strategy.

Barton and Hanretty will mention withdrawals on the ISU channel without citing a reason. Sometimes they fill it in later, sometimes they don't. I still haven't seen the SP's, and I may have forgotten, but I don't remember that they explained during the FS why both men withdrew.
I think the discussion of what it's like to think that, even though you're planning to put your best out there, a week ago you thought that you were fighting for fourth or fifth to make the National Team, and suddenly you're in a position to be on the podium would have been an interesting discussion. Or, if that doesn't apply, that the entire Fall you were expected to medal, and there was a different kind of pressure, or whatever their situation was. And in Moore-Towers' case, what the pressures were once she made the partner switch.
And the discussion moved on organically from something factual. In this case, by not mentioning it, it became a thing.

No but two players went off from their NHL teams yesterday for “mental health reasons.”
So they are rumoured to be among the 5.

At least Canada has no limitation of time reporting sexual assault.
It wasn’t even that long ago when the story first broke though either. It feels like it was a lot longer than it broke though. So less than 2 years really isn’t that huge .. yay for the victim! I don’t think they can release names until they’ve been charged though.

The article I read said they tried to settle everything quietly but it became a big controversy that forced authorities to reopen the case. So 2 years from reopening but not from the attack.

Reported to the authorities and investigated (or ”investigated”) and closed in 2019 without bringing charges. In 2022 the victim’s lawsuit was settled, and, according to the article, there was a parliamentary hearing(s) after the settlement, and subsequent public pressure helped to cause the case to be re-opened.
