Keeping Track of Criminal Cases & SafeSport Suspensions in Skating

You understand that no one is ever found innocent, and in this case there is no criminal proceeding.
Call it what you will. If a victim claims an event happened on a certain date, and the accused has proof that they were in another province, state or country at the time yet, I'd say that would exonerate them. And for the "who-knows-how-many-time", I believe it is highly likely that he is guilty of the crime he is accused of.

Because he isn't a skater?

If you want to talk about Justin Trudeau, start a thread.

Sometimes it does. But that isn't the hole you dug for yourself. YOU argued that one incident shouldn't destroy a person's life.

There is, in that statement, an actual presumption of guilt.

Again, I think it would be a good idea for people--at least some people--to take a step back for a couple of days.
OK. So raising similar cases that don't involve skaters is irrelevant. Different rules for different people. Got it.

The likelihood is that we will never know the exact outcome unless the recommended punishment is a ban of some sort. Other lesser punishments or an exoneration will be covered by the confidentiality requirements, and probably not disclosed.

See the title of the thread? Keeping Track of Criminal Cases & SafeSport Suspensions in Skating

No one has told you that you can't talk about Trudeau or that he is off limits as a topic. Start a thread. Start one for SA cases that aren't skating related in a non-skating forum if you like.

If you say so. Personally I think the conversation at this point is serving no purpose at all.
I actually think us talking about it in any capacity even when have to read and deal with opinions that make us want to tear our hair out is good because people have often had to suffer in silence and this was one of those things you just didn’t talk about.

I'm going to sound heartless but I actually don't care if men are falsely accused. It's just desserts for the way women have been victimized, harassed, even killed for making an accusation of rape. I literally do not care about false accusations. If a woman says she was raped I believe her.
Even if this is a man close to you, whom you love very much? Father, brother, husband, son?
What if someone accuses you? Will you care if no one around you believes you?

Kaiya is now the Canadian Champion--she should be going to Worlds, and YOG can't help her achieve the minimum TES she needs.
Completely off-topic for the thread, but it’s her decision to prioritize what she wants. If she wants to go to an Olympic Games, whether youth or elite, why not?

She doesn’t have the Worlds minimums after several attempts, so she would be at risk of even making the free skate in senior at this point. So why throw away the unique once every X years opportunity for that? Or to try once again for the minimums, not achieve them, and miss YOG at the same time?

Maybe Skate Canada learned from pushing for Pfaneuf to go to Jr. Worlds after she won Nationals. (Even a stopped clock...)

Watching JRo handle the media asking her how she felt about going to Worlds when she didn't deserve it (paraphrase) was what made me a JRo fan.

(Apologies: I thought this was the Canadian Women's thread...)

Did anyone mention the reason for Sorensen’s withdrawal during the live stream/broadcast? Kaitlyn Weaver was commenting, and she’s usually quite outspoken. Does anyone know if she mentioned it?

I see she’s taken on a cultural appropriation issue (German team’s exhibition program at Euros) via Instagram and Twitter — she’s posting a lot about it. I haven’t seen much regarding Sorensen’s rape allegation, even though she commentated for Canadian Nationals.

I watched almost all of the dance event and I don't remember it being mentioned at all. Which IMO was the right thing to do.

Also to add to what overedge said, they didn't mention L/L's withdrawal either. They just stuck to who was there.

And in Public Relations Course 101, was the right thing to do.

The investigation is ongoing, it would be a legal nightmare for anyone who employs KW and that broadcast organization.

Right but she calls herself an activist for change and is usually very vocal. I guess when it’s a Skate Canada athlete accused of rape, then it hits too close to her pocketbook.
Unfair. She’s a commentator employed by a media organization and must follow their rules. Should she have quit the job in order to say SA is bad? SMDH.

Exactly what kind of change would she accomplish by mentioning the investigation on air during a competition?

Acknowledging the investigation (which was directly related to their absence at the event) would help curb the culture of silence around sexual assault in sports. Like I said, she says she’s an activist.that’s why I call her out. I guess her activism is only during strategic times that don’t harm her in any way professionally or financially.

You’re missing the point here I think. She’s broadcasting to all of Canada and the rest of the world. She doesn’t have facts, nor does anyone else at this point. There’s an allegation and an investigation ongoing. I am quite certain they were all advised to not make mention of it.

She’s free to do what she wants on her personal account, but then again, I’m sure she knows better than to state any opinions as fact at this time, or even hint at suggestions of it.

There are many activists who in their professional lives are legally/contractually bound not to speak about certain issues while performing their duties. Sometimes, they will quit/step aside in order to be able to, but not everybody has this luxury. Personally, I am happy to have Kaitlyn working for change on the inside.
