Russia’s 2014 Olympic champion in team figure skating Yulia Lipnitskaya has wrapped up with her sports career and informed about the Russian Figure Skating Federation (RFSF) about her decision back in April, the mother of the 19-year-old figure skater told TASS on Monday.

"Yulia informed the management of the federation (RFSF) about her decision to wrap up with her career back in April after returning from Europe, where she underwent three-month treatment from anorexia," Lipnitskaya’s mother said in an interview with TASS.

"We are grateful to Telesport company, which helped Yulia at that difficult period of time," she said. "I would like to point out that she is currently paid Olympic stipend only and is not receiving salary from the federation although she is still listed on the reserve roster of the national team."

RFSF President Alexander Gorshkov told TASS that the federation did not receive official documents from Lipnitskaya stating her decision to end sports career.

Do you mean the treatment? I guess it is not so difficult, Miki hide a pregnancy from the fans, I think that was much harder. Anyway, there were rumours about Yulia in treatment, so it was not so secret.
I didn't heard the rumours about the treatment. I heard the rumours about her pregnancy. What was absolute nonsence.

It's almost as if she predicted her future and left her last powers on the olympic ice, dying like the girl in the red coat. What a tragic metaphor.

I will miss you, Julia. You were and still are a true legend.

I'm disappointed that Julia won't be returning to skating as I thought she had so much potential. I am very sad to learn of her struggles with anorexia - there are some skaters (male and female) who I look at and think they have problems but I'd never thought that about Julia. I hope that whatever she does in the future makes her happy, and I thank her for performances of the wonderful Schindler's List FP.

Best wishes for the future, Julia :)

Because it's none of your business and they are under no obligation to tell you????

What's nonsense is your assumption that you should KNOW this somehow.

:( Sometimes I really don't understand some posters here. Some of them are eager to attack somebody.:kickass: I have a simply question. I don't think I should know everything. But we know many things about the skaters rumours, dates, etc. here. Yulia Lipnitskaya is a star she receives more media attentions as many others....

@Ka3sha, can you edit in/add @Jot the Dot Dot's link to the English version of the article http://tass.com/sport/962308 to to your original post in this thread? Thanks!

ETA that Julia apparently has not yet officially informed the federation of her retirement:
RFSF President Alexander Gorshkov told TASS that the federation did not receive official documents from Lipnitskaya stating her decision to end sports career.
"Although listed in the reserve roster, Yulia is still a part of the Russian national team," Gorshkov said in an interview with TASS after asked to comment on the statement of Lipnitskaya’s mother.
"I cannot make statement based on gossips since my post obliges me to be guided by facts only," Gorshkov said. "We have to wait for an official statement for Yulia as now we are in the middle of gossips."

All the best to Julia in the next chapter of her life -- I wish her both health and happiness.

I'm glad she's getting treatment but it's so sad how normalized a lot of this disordered eating is in this sport. I really do think both the ISU and individual federations need to tackle this issue head-on and consult with real nutritionists about what sort of eating should be encouraged in this sport. So many young people are so dependent on authority figures who should know better and they are usually the ones applauding and encouraging harmful lifestyles.
