I hate to admit it, but this is exactly where my mind went. To be held without bond after being arrested by Homeland Security...whatever it is, it's serious AF. We'll know by tomorrow I think, when he gets in front of a judge. They can't hold him over the weekend without telling him why, right?

This is what I’m thinking, too. I know many are speculating that it’s something financial but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s something worse.

When he got sent away for ‘therapy’ after the cheating thing, didn’t his wife end up living with all her kids in a single bedroom at his family’s place?

That probably would have been a taster for her of life separated.

Sadly, a solo life for a woman with that many kids and minimal earning capacity is very very hard. And that’s not even considering the religious pressures she’d have to stay married.

This is all speculation on my part and have absolutely no evidence of anything. Just random thoughts that popped into my head:

She is trapped. To be a single mom with seven kids will be extremely difficult and scary AF. How can she work? Childcare of course , but look at how much that would cost? Will anyone help her? Her own family, or the Duggars? Maybe the Duggars have blackmailed her to stay? What if she has been mentally abused and believe there is no life worth living outside the Duggar world?

What a nightmare.

As an aside, as someone who was raised in a extremely sheltered home school environment, Josh Duggar has done quite a good job of getting himself into a lot of trouble by the age of 33.

IMO being raised in that sheltered environment is exactly what has let him do what he's done. Because he's the oldest son in a family/religion with very traditional views, like if a woman or girl is abused it's her responsibility to forgive

Didn’t he have an affair with a porn star? Maybe I’m showing my own naivety here, but I have lived out in the regular world and I wouldn’t even know where to even start if I decided I wanted to do such a thing.

Perhaps for all the sheltered upbringing it didn’t take him long to get up to speed.

But leopards don’t change their spots ... Josh would probably have always had these tendencies. Only he wouldn’t be dragging a wife and 7 children down with him had he not been raised in that religious sect.

The used car lot he was running got raided by Homeland Security around December of 2019 so whatever they were investigating they definitely took their time investigating it.

As for Anna, she was raised in the cult and when her and Josh got married he was royalty in their circles. When the cheating scandal broke she was taken care of by the Duggars so I imagine that's what'll happen again. The closest thing to freedom she'll probably be able to get from him is if he goes to jail.

I had a little bit more of a read about Josh. I didn’t know much other than a bit about the reality show.

I did read about how Josh was quite politically active on ‘morality’ issues and I can appreciate there is a huge issue of extreme hypocrisy on his part.

Yes, it appears he was abusive from a very young age towards his own sisters and has been consistently committing new offences or shocking deeds despite multiple opportunities to change his ways. He would likely have been a predator in any circumstance, but the environment allowed him to cause more damage.

I used to watch the 19 kids and counting show, to me it was like a horror film. Every single thing about this family screams RED FLAG RED FLAG, and creeps me completely out. Josh is the tip of the iceberg - there’s a ton of crap hidden that will likely never be known, and never be dealt with.

Whatever it is it's serious. I feel bad for his kids. And also his sisters Jessa and Jill who had to go on TV and defend him. Ugh. This family grosses me out.

I know this is sarcasm but it isn't wrong. His parents created this weird view of sex. It was right and good for them, and they made no secret of that, but they reinforced that it was wrong and bad for the kids (until they got married). They never got Josh the help he needed after he molested his sisters, and I'm not talking about when the scandal broke several years later.

Take it from a Christian, the Duggars' views about a lot of things are weird, fringy, and in some ways downright anti-Christian. (Autocorrect wanted to turn fringy into cringy, and it's not wrong . . . ) Unfortunately, their media connections helped them put such a sheen on things -- Big happy countercultural family! Everyone sheltered and safe! -- that too many people found that weird and fringy stuff attractive for too long.

Oh, I believe it. A lot of things go on among "good Christians" about which you know Jesus is somewhere saying "Dude, leave Me out of this." But the Duggars, I think, are more extreme than most.
