Tong - pretty dress in shades of purple. Screechy violin music is doing her no favors. Some of these jumps are definitely wobbly on the landings and are going to be scrutinized by the tech panel. She's going to drop like a rock in the overall standings.

These jumps look tight. Eventually, she'll want to integrate her jumps more into her program--right now it's very clear when she's setting up for a jump. Nice Biellman position in her spin. Couple falls right at end of program. A learning skate for her.

Chao - lovely grape-colored, tank-top style dress with tons of sparkles. Eeesh - the back end of the 3f+3t was rough - two-footed. Good 3lo, but the 3s was sketch on the landing, nice 3z though! Awww, down on the 3z that was supposed to be in combo. Really mixed bag on her jumps, and she's also going to drop in the overall standings. No medal for Annika today.

And we finally get to see Annika skate. Goodness, she has legs for days! She moves nicely, but the jumps are shaky -- I don't know if this is going to be enough to keep her on the podium.

Ballad, but I'll take it over yet another classical piece. She has a nice long-limbed elegance and carries herself well. Jumps had some problems (step-outs, underrotations and fall). Strong PCS-day, not her best technical performance.

Annika Chao was 9th at Junior Nationals (she's re-using her Adele FS; competed Novice last season) and 2nd in the JGP selection competition in Milwaukee that earned her this JGP spot. Very respectable showing for her junior international debut at 13!

ETA: 105.11 4th in FS, 164.04 3rd overall with 2 to go.

I wonder if she might be willing to consider ice dance? I'm not saying she has no future in singles (I hate when people suggest that skaters switch to ice dance just because they've seen them have one shaky performance), but her figure would look striking in ice dance and she seems to have a bit of diva in her.

Yuseong Kim (Yujae's twin sister) will attempt 3A. ETA: And she lands it, like she did in her FS in the Korean JGP selection comp.!

She's maybe a bit tall for dance.

3a, 3f-3t. Would love to see her extend and straighten her free leg when she lands her jumps. Nice clean performance.

ETA: ooh, fun sibling rivalry tales!

That 3a was beautiful -- she just tossed it off like it was no big deal!

Yuseong - wow - what a beautiful dress! 3a! Girl wants to win. Hmmm... I question the rotation on the 3t of her 3f+3t combo. Well, actually, I question whether or not these jumps make it to seniors. Nice spins. Absolutely nothing about her skating that sets her apart from the rest of her compatriots.

Not a big fan of neon pink underwear under a see-through skirt for a junior (well, for anyone, but especially a junior). What was Ami's team thinking?

Nakai

poorly-performed 2a that probably meant to be a 3a, is this Mandy Moore?, now that's a blast from the past :40beers: Landing her jumps neatly now that she got the axel out of the way. Much stronger basics than the Koreans. Looks like she lost an element (X box in tracker), but I missed what it was.

Yeah, I didn't want to make too many snarky remarks, so I didn't comment, but another underfed 14-year-old who can't rotate triples jumping a 3A doesn't really impress me much at this point.

Nakai is a much nicer skater, but that second 2A just buried her. A valuable experience for her for the future. You have to keep track of these things as you go!

Ami - messy-as-hell 2a instead of a 3a - that will probably give the gold to Yuseong. Eeek - she forgot that she'd already done two 2As and got no points for that 3rd one. She might have enough of a lead and a big enough PCS bump to squeak out the win, but she doesn't really deserve to.

3rd 2A - one at the start, then one in sequence, so the solo 2A doesn't count.
