KUSHIDA a real beauty in Little Prince! I can picture her as a dancer at The Joyce theatre in NYC!

Will it be a Japanese sweep? Step out of opening 3z, followed by 3s-3t, but t looked short, lots of little choreographic details in the program, performance of the program was on, but lots of minor problems on the jumps, e.g., landing short, and not having flow out of them.
Agree. I'm going to be annoyed if she medals over Tsai.

ETA - judges got it right! Is this a first JGP medal for Taiwan?

Rewound to watch the bronze medalist from TPE

Tsai
Jumps are fundamentally sound with good spring and good flow out of them on landing, she feels the music and interprets, as I've stated before, I think the bloody crystals on the costume are a bit much when skating to Schindler's List. Clean performance!

LOL - agree about the crystals on her dress. Surprisingly, I noted that she has no hair bling at all and has a poorly knotted bun with a red hair tie showing. If you're gonna go all out with the bloody crystals on the dress, at least spring for the bloody hair crystals too!

Carina Chen won bronze at JGP Gdansk in 2000, so no, not the first. Still, big congratulations! :cheer2:
First medal for TPE in 23 years sounds good! :) Yu-Feng (Phoebe) TSAI is coached by Wei-Tzu (David) Chang - he is listed as a coach at Ice Land at Taipei Arena - so it appears she lives/is based there.

ETA that Carina was born in/skated out of Chicago.

I am just rewatching and watched the skate from Milana Mozeiko. Wow, I have so much respect for her, I actually have tears in my eyes. Two hard falls that completely winded her and THEN to not give up and only do a double but to actually go and land another triple is amazing.
If there was a medal for sheer guts, I would give it to her :respec:

Catching up on things, I know I've said this before, but I really don't understand why Hamada has Mao going for the quad. First, she flat out does not need it to win anything at the junior level right now, and second, given that she can't go to the Olympics until 2030, why is longevity not the priority here? We know enough at this point to know that these elements both do not last that long and seem pretty harmful to the careers of the girls who train them.

Thoughts:

Mia Kalin really is not ready for Carmen, even though she really has improved her PCS but that is a bridge too far. In recent times only Sasha Cohen in singles could do it justice. I’m also not sure about her strategy to keep doing quads when she usually falls but can land the triples pretty easily, especially in combo. She could definitely place higher with a clean skate with triples and her improved PCS…though more work to do with Massimo. Love how Ted and Mark were so optimistic that Mia will be able to do quads by seniors. I hope so but….

I really liked Tsai’s Schindler’s List interpretation, well done at her age with commitment to the choreography and emotion. Was so happy she medaled.

Mao’s free skate was much better for her than the short. I feel like her jumps are not the fastest, or the highest and not the most distance but boy does she rotate fast in the air with lovely positioning. Love her spins and spirals and gentle use of her arms. Gotta wonder if she will make it to 2030 though. I hope she figure skates because she really loves it and wants it. Not because her parents want it and named her after a figure skating legend. Shades of Anne Patrice McDonough whose mom said when she was born she decided she would be a figure skater. Anne did achieve a very high level for awhile but burned out fast…probably because her mom wanted it more than her. Didn’t the same thing happen to Tiffany Chin? I hope Mao is figure skating because she really wants it. Also I remember how nuts I was about Marin Honda when she dominated juniors. So you never know.

Loved Kushida’s red dress but found it a bit too sexy for juniors. Would love to see that on Loena Hendrix! For me the Japanese ladies often have such an athletic style of skating the really frilly or feminine dresses can look a little off on them.
