The first warm-up is underway and we have Ted and Mark together in person again :)

Straub/Straub

Nice spacing through the midline, but think edges could be deeper, nice twizzles, camerawork is not great, negative GOE on Quickstep, pleasant program--I wonder why they chose Latin (when they didn't have to) as a brother-sister team. The program is very tame, which, of course, it has to be since they're siblings

Lanyi/Gallai

Wait, are these actual Hungarians? I've gotten so used to the Hungrussians filling out the entire roster. Blue unitard from her, blue vest from him, nice knee bend through the Quickstep--negative GOE though, twizzles turning slowly, nice rotational lift, young team, and I think there's more expression in both of them that they will tap into as they mature

Stapert/Korotcov

nice twizzles to start, getting the key points in the rhumba (3 yeses) :cheer:, think they could extend the legline more, composed performance, he had big grin after the final lift went well

Tech panel took a long time getting the twizzles called, but looks like with will be a good score for the Americans. I wish she would switch to a black top, or at least match the shade of red in the skirt, because I found the disconnect very distracting.

Stefanovova/Boeris

sparkly dress from her, gold and black striped sleeves from him, level two twizzles, nice flow through the Rhumba but lacking precision in the blade placement, look quite comfortable out there performing, now need to deepen the edges and clarity

Sznajder/Novak

2 keypoints for Rhumba, kinda far apart on twizzles (level 4 and 2), "Dance!" song from Center Stage, there's an ease to their movement and expression that is appealing

ETA: great job scoring into 2nd place, really liked how they integrated performance quality with the elements. :respec: Impressive JGP debut!

Homick/Buelow

good unison through Rhumba, but no key points, big expression, nice twizzles, just more to do with cleanliness and clarity

Fun skate from Summer and Nick, great connection, but a lot of low levels.

PG/BK

Backstreet's back-to-back! good speed through the pattern, got too close to the wall and he fell :fragile: which messed up both rhumba and then carried over to negative GOE for Quickstep, a little out of sync on the twizzles. Well, that's the very definition of a disruptive fall.

They go into 4th. With a good FD, though, they should be able to climb back up.

Sundberg/Gonzales Elvira

twizzles a little more effortful, but done, soft knees through the Rhumba, doing a good job of hitting the beat of the music

She's a former synchro skater

In other news, Backstreet Boys is killing the Backstreet Boys v. *NSync competition for having music used.
That isn’t a huge shock to me - NSync only had one album released in the 90’s, and a lot of their biggest hits came in the 2000’s. BSB had 2 albums in the 90’s, including Millennium which I think was their best performing album. Just from living thru their heyday, I associate NSync with the 2000’s more than the 90’s.

Great energy from Soldati/Tagliabue. Twizzles looked a bit cautious to me but they got their level 4s. Tech looks good. Dark horse for the podium?

Soldati/Tagliabue

Isn't Everybody Dance Now 80s? nice twizzles, level 2s on midline--good for them, good stationary lift though only level 3, fun program

The first 2 groups (of 4) are complete and the ice is being resurfaced.
