The trumpets have sounded in the arena, the officials have been introduced, the countdown clock has run down, and the stream is now live for the Jr Men SP. Just 20 of them in 4 groups :)

Sorry, Jari, I'm skipping you to refill my water - that's what happens when you subject me to Cody Fry for the first program of the competition AGAIN (see the Women's SP, lol).

Choi -- not bad for a first JGP. I thought he could use a little more speed, but Ted disagrees.

Ted marvels over a connection between boxing and figure skating. It's as if Fear/Gibson never did a Rocky program.

Rio - totally great until he botches his combo and only does a 3t+2t - can he bring it back for the step sequence and sell the hell out of this Spanish music from the Taalbi Brothers? Why, yes, he can! Fabulous closing spin too!

ETA - yes, I'll agree with Mark - that 3A WAS luscious!

Rio is really upping his game, presentation-wise! You can really see his ambition, he knows what he needs to do. He's gonna be so mad about the combo, but I wonder why only a planned 3T-3T (I assume).

Ted & Mark are both wondering the same thing and trying to NOT speculate, lol. It's so funny to hear them both discussing it!

Went and looked at the protocol for the last JGP final. The lutz was the required SP jump, and he was getting ! on it for negative overall GOE. He didn't do one in the LP. Guess he doesn't like the lutz, but his 3loop is good, so ???

Thai guy's shirt is interesting. Feels very Hanyu-esque but the lower 6 inches or so of the tunic hem being cut into strips is a choice, lol. The shirt is white with light sapphire airbrushing - the back is almost rib-like, the front is more vertical, and then there are crystals, and a high ruffled neck.

Kakiuchi - doing only a 2a kind of cancels out whatever benefit he gets from a solid 3z+3t, TES-wise. Dark teal shirt with some navy blue & silver whickety-whack and black slacks.

Kirill Sheiko - this kid's haircut is giving major '80s vibes, lol. This program and music is kind of giving me OES trashy vibes - You Are My Destiny by Paul Anka with a red suit coat that has black, crystalized accents and a white shirt underneath. Not bad for the 13-year old!

quite some interesting skates. Loved Nakata, he really grew in skating and height. ALso impressed by Habin Choi, first time I saw him. I liked his speed and power. His jumps were so high!

Yanhao Li starts us off with black pleather pants that have a "chain" waistband that's really nothing more than silver stones/crystals, lol. Shirt is millennial grey/lilac with some crystals on it. He's killing it on his jumps today! This is easily going to take the lead. Great expression in his step sequence!

Li: Great 3a, made it through all the jumping passes, nice performance quality. Well done. :cheer:

Chow - there's something about the way the air is blowing his hair while he's skating that makes him look like he has a bald spot developing. That's what I focused on during his program, lol.
