JGP #3 - Bangkok THA - Women's SP & FS

Renee Tsai NZL - ahhhh, she's the one who is in the apple/spring green dress with lots of bling and a headband. If I hadn't known that we've already seen both the Korean women in this comp, I'd have mistaken her for one. "Hallelujah" cover by Lindsay Stirling - yeah, again, totally tracks with a the pseudo-Korean woman vibe she's giving. Only, without the jumps. I take that back - she has a nice 2a. Ted's more generous than I am - this was vanilla.

Megan Wong HKG - black with lots of sparkles and heavy silver stoning on one hip and the lower back half, oh and this is a one-armed dress. I was expecting a tango based on what we've gotten today so far from the women in this event, but no - Burn by 2WEI, Edda Hayes, Christian Vorlander, Hermann Schepetkov, Marvin Kucklack, Ruben Norg, Simon Heeger. I give her props for being a little edgy in her music choice - I was wondering how many synonyms for boring I was going to have to come up with for the rest of this group and the next one before we get to the bulk of the semi-voidy/WTF Euro women here, lol.

Sama Jeraq - just the 2nd Kuwaiti skater ever. Navy blue dress with some heavy gold applique/detailing on the bodice and sleeves of her dress. "Dark Paradise" by Lana del Rey. Oh, I think we've found our "very developmental" skater of the event - 4 elements in and her TES is 1.95 with 2 Xed elements; TES tracker was 4.50 when it left the screen with 3 Xed elements.

Ted's talking about the ISU initiative to grow the sport in the Middle East and is it wrong of me to cynically think "yeah, they want some oil money coming into the sport".

Daria Snegovskaia - her ISU bio says she practices in Bishkek so maybe she's actually from Kyrgyzstan. "House of the Flying Daggers" - red ombres to royal blue with gold stoning/crystals on the bodice and sleeves. I will say, if she's a Russian import then she's a discarded one because she's clearly not on an all-water diet or dietary supplements only health regimen.

Anna Sannikova KAZ - her ISU bio says she was born in Penza RUS but her hometown is Almaty and she's coached by Oksana Ten, so it would seem like maybe her family has relocated when she was a small child - started skating in 2014 at the Denis Ten Academy. She's very slim - black with red trim/ruffle on the skirt and red on the bodice, lots of black illusion around the midriff, sleeves and tights. She's definitely not a Russian import of any great stature based on her jumps. She's a bit interesting and has really nice spins.

There is some girl dressed like she's an extra in a Bollywood film - electric pink tube top, gold stoning/crystals, skirt has a gold, wide waistband and is royal purple with an aqua overlay.

Then there's a plum purple dress, a black & red dress, a black and silver dress. And they keep panning to the school cheerleader audience sections instead of letting us see the skaters clearly so I'm at a loss for the last two dresses yet.

Varvara Korotcova UZB - "Seven Nation Army" and it sounds like the original version as per her ISU bio! Black with some silver stoning/crystals on the bodice and bare shoulders with long black chiffon sleeves. I wish she was as edgy as this music but her skating seems more suited for lyrical.

Yihan Wang CHN - "Paint It Black" - this is an interesting costume. Black, pleather-y pants with some deocrative trim in a lilac color that matches the sleeves of her top, the bodice has some plum and coral and nude illusion with crystals/stoning in the same as well as silver, and there's some dark purple chiffon strips handing off her waist but not really a skirt. Really solid jumps so far! 3z+3t, 2a, 3f - very controlled skating. She should easily go into 2nd if not the lead.

Edges into the lead by .40!

Chilly Ann Sintana Wongso of Indonesia is our Bollywood girl - her music confirms this:

Medley by Stela Project
Bali Janger by Stela Project
Jawa Timur by Stela Project

Well, okay, that was not a terrible 2a attempt given that I wasn't expecting a 2a attempt at all. That's all I got for her. My snacks were more interesting.

Logan Higase-Chen is the one in the plum purple dress. What's with the patches on the sleeves? Oh, wait, her ISU bio says she's skating to Rogue One - so, I'm guessing they're supposed to be Star Wars patches or something. Beautiful 2a to open! And she pops her 3z. None of our US women want a 2nd JGP, do they? Good 3f to come back but still... She's lucky that the rest of the field, so far, have skated poorly.

Requiem for a Dream always reminds me of the year when it seemed like everyone was using it. :)

Chloe Tang TPE - black & white dress that if I hadn't looked at her ISU bio music already would make me think it's a black swan/white swan program, but no, it's Requiem for a Dream by Escala. She seems happy. Skating was... No comment, I was snacking again.

Mei Okada JPN - red & black - skating to the Nine soundtrack. 3z+1t - that's gonna hurt her score and the JSF has been BRUTAL with JGP spots, taking them away from under-performing skaters, so she's going to need to medal if she wants to keep her 2nd assignment. Clean 2a and 3f will help her cause. She's very flail-y with this step sequence, kind of a little paint-by-the-numbers "Be Italian!"

Lots of popping in this group. I like Okada, though. Good expression.

Skategods, please unleash your wrath on all the coaches and choreographers who give "Be Italian" to juniors.

Hana Bath AUS - I know this music... Olga Mikutina! Hana's costume is not nearly as WTF awesome as Olga's goth vampire dress. Basic navy blue with lots of sparkles and deep v-neck in the front and back does not cut it for this music, sorry. Good for landing your jumps though!

Gah - I'm sorry, Ted, but, sticking with Tammy Gambill scares just about every US skating fan out here, and I'm begging Logan to find a better coach stat.
I could not disagree more….. she has brought Logan up the last few years to National Junior Champion. Logan had success last year internationally also but I can’t remember the name of the competition.

Cameraperson really likes Hana. Was practically up her nose on the last spin. Double flip but then a 3-3 combo!

LOL. That would be impressive if the US women, especially at the jr level, were competitive internationally.

Leandra Tzimpoukakis SUI - really, how is this girl not skating for Greece? Black and silver dress and this is a Beyonce program. Hopefully it's better than FearGib's FD. Good first two jumping passes. 3z+3t - that is gonna get reviewed. Terrible music edit and the program kind of ends with a whimper.
