JGP #1 - Riga LAT - Men's SP & FS

Korean guy is wearing a shirt & skating to a song that belongs to Junhwan. And now, I really sort of want to see Junhwan take this program to the level we deserve if we're going to be subjected to a classic '90s rock ballad like "I Don't Want to Miss A Thing." Just sayin'...

Latvian guy is skating to music from Love Never Dies, which to me does not exist, so I hear nothing. 🤷‍♀️

I find it hard to believe that this kid is JGP-worthy out of the U.S. surely we must have guys further along than this.

Elano - fall on the 3a, messy combo; first four elements are red boxes - hope he appreciates his one & only JGP assignment this season.

Oof, painful-looking fall. :( I seem to remember Elano doing better than this last season. Maybe there's injury or something involved.

We do, but they've got later JGP assignments, & he did very well at Junior Cup. We have Kazanecki next week, Fegan the week after & Blackwell at the 4th JGP.

Oof, tough skate for Elano, poor kid. One of those falls looked painful, I hope he’s ok.

Damn, the commentator didn't sugar-coat it at all. This might sting worse than that fall:
it... it's hard to comment on a program like that, because it was nightmarish [...]

Very nice skate, and some solid elements. I think he's another skater with a good sense of performance, and music.

Definitely needs some work on the spins. Jumps are okay - obviously wanted a triple-triple combo, but what he was solid. Not much performance or personality to speak of.

A bit of a struggle - maybe a bit of nerves - on the jumps. Clearly has the ability to bring the performance level to make the program interesting to watch.

Solid technical elements aside from the last spin, and some nice skating quality. Mark mentioned he's switching to pairs next season, and with his jumping elements, and physical frame he could be a really good partner.

Strange mistake on the Lutz, but the rest of the program was very strong. Working on the presentation, and it looks like there's some progress there to see.

The technical elements were pretty good - Axel got away from him. With some many iconic skaters, and programs to this music I didn't feel like this program was constructed as well it could have been.
