ISU Grand Prix Assignments 2017/18 Olympic season

Looking at Sylvia's most recent list the guys in that group of ten that Feds get to pick from were:

26 Nguyen CAN - assigned to Rostelecom
27 Kvitelashvili GEO - assigned to France
29 Kerry AUS - assigned to Skate Canada
31 Yan CHN - China host pick
33 Majorov SWE - assigned to China
34 Brezina CZE - assigned to NHK
35 Dolensky USA
36 Fentz GER
37 Balde CAN
40 Messing CAN - Canada host pick
---
42 Dmitriev RUS (does he move up to the first group now?)

Nam Nguyen is off the list now, since with NHK he has two. Brendan Kerry and Keegan Messing can't be chosen to replace Kotvun, since they are already at Skate Canada, and Elladj Balde isn't an option since there are already three Canadian men.

I would love to see Han Yan at Skate Canada, Chinese fed really should've left him off Cup of China first so that he would have a better chance of getting picked up by a different GP and then add him as a host pick but oh well. I really want to see him with another GP assignment.

I'm happy for Nam. Japan chooses from among the best athletes on the list, and I always appreciate their decision to do so. It makes NHK a deeper field and a better event to watch.

Although there was that year when they picked Fancy/Boyadji .... :D

They also picked Coomes & Buckland two years ago and Dabin Choi last season, both of whom finished top 10 at those respective Worlds. When I am worried about a competitive athlete being selected, NHK is often my best hope.

Was checking the grids this morning as I'm starting to get anxious about going to Skate Canada and see that there have been some cross outs in mens and ladies:

Chafik Besseghier is out of Skate Canada

Soyoun Park is out Rostelecom Cup
Roberta Rodeghiero is out of Skate Canada
Nahyun Kim is out of Skate Canada

Thoughts on replacements?

I don't think Soyoun has to be replaced because it's less than two weeks until Rostelecom. I need to see the replacement list for the others.

I would love to see Craine get one of the ladies spots but I'm not sure how high on the list she is, or if her result at Nebelhorn helps her cause here.

Interesting and unfortunate.

My thoughts..

SC..

I hope mens goes to Tim Dolensky
and ladies go to Kailiani and Amber Glenn.

If I recall from the substitute list these entries should be considered.

Rostelecom..I can't imagine them replacing.

Anyone know what happened to Roberta?

According to the announcement, Craine's Nebelhorn result doesn't help her, because a CS win puts you at the bottom of the alternates, and she's already 10th, 11th, or 12th, depending on whether being assigned to one and withdrawing from it means that a second assignment is considered a prohibited "replacement" -- if so, then Rodeghiero, Kim, and Toth are off the alternates list -- and whether the Russian Fed submitted Sakhanovich for GP this season.

Even if she isn't Top 10, it's possible she could be after Skate Canada and/or the Russian Fed choose replacement(s), which could bump her up.

I'd love to see Craine at Skate Canada. It would also be nice to see Loena Hendrickx join her brother at SC; she also should be comparatively inexpensive to fly to Russia. There's also room for a third Russian Lady, if Sakhanovich was submitted, or a third US and/or Japanese Lady.

I can't imagine Skate Canada NOT choosing one of the US ladies on the sub list at this point. The question is, which? Glenn, Hicks and Tennell are all great options.

<NVM Sylvia's post is clearer.>
Along with Rodeghiero and Kim, who withdrew from Skate Canada.

Edmunds SB from 15-16 of 183.20 from 2015 Rostelecom Cup places her as SB 35, between Glenn and Hicks, because return skaters "will be ranked in the list of Season’s Best scores by taking the Season’s Best points of their most recent season..." and within the Top Ten for the alternates list. So, she too, could be a choice for Skate Canada.

Good for them. They should have received that spot from the beginning, IMO.
Why should they? Last season they didn’t even qualify for Russian nationals. I am happy they got it now, but at the same time it is fair that they had to prove themselves. Why should they get the host event based on last year results when the results were not that great?

I don't think they will choose Craine, only because they will want to have someone Austman can place ahead of. I could see them choosing Edmonds, but the other US ladies are too much of a risk.
