In Memoriam

I am tremendously saddened by the death of Anthony Geary. I was watching General Hospital and other soaps way before the Luke and Laura storyline but Geary was a force of nature. He had such power, talent and charisma as an actor, I wasn't surprised that TPTB rehabilitated the character of Luke Spencer so that Anthony could remain on the show. RIP Anthony Geary.

Likewise I'm shocked by the deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife. Reiner's film Stand by Me was my favorite, but a part of me will remember his Mike Stivic in "All in the Family" Another talented couple gone way too soon.

There are some screenshots being shared on various platforms of Geary and Reiner in a scene from an early episode of All in the Family.

Aw, singer of one of my favourite Christmas songs has passed away.

Holy cow, please don’t ruin me, I’ve been listening to Driving Home for Christmas since Halloween afternoon. It’s my favorite Christmas song except for the Vanessa Williams starlight album. Are you kidding me?

You just don’t want me to leave the house this week to you?

the sad news continues,

Anthony Geary who played Luke Spencer on General Hospital has died
My friend, Pat, had a huge crush on Geary & had lunch with him several times. She once asked me to go with her to a luncheon with him but I was never a fan of his so I declined.
"Laura" (can't think of her name-Genie Francis?) Is on a soap these days, General Hospital?

I only keep up with Y & R.

Luke and Laura - the ultimate rapists' defense in a rape case.

Defendant Lawyer: Women enjoy rape, they fantasize about being raped.
Prosecutor: what is your evidence that this is a true statement?
Defendant Lawyer: Luke and Laura story in the 80's. Ratings were through the roof

Yes, I watched THE WEDDING.

I know that's the role he was known for. Another one of my age group gone

The character of Jack Deveraux on Days of Our Lives was a rapist, too, but became a "good" character.

Butting in to highlight the fact that Anthony Geary was not a rapist and only played one in TV.

While alive, we could argue about his decision to remain in the role, but he just past and I find harping about a 40-yr old TV soap event here, to be distasteful at best.

There are so many IRL *ssholes we can work to take down, anger should be directed there.

The actor on St. Elsewhere was playing a rapist, too.

It is always the producers’ choice whether to “rehabilitate” a rapist. Especially when it’s a widely accepted trope in soaps to kill someone off/have them disappear and then have their identical cousin show up to get the views.

It’s also an actor’s choice to break a contract, although not an easy one. Part of Geary’s legacy is playing out the rehabilitation storyline.
