In Memoriam

BBC reporting that the cause of Pope Francis's death was a stroke and subsequent irreversible heart failure. He was 88, had recently been very sick, and was still taking on duties and dealing with stressful matters.

He lived a long and productive life.

I'm not Catholic and disagreed with him on some things, but I remember reading a book of conversations he had with a rabbi and thinking that this was the kind of man I would want to be Pope.

So, so sad.

True crime watchers may remember this.

Terrence Reynald Woods past away in early February. He was the husband of the late Roxanne Woods. His first wife Roxanne was assaulted and unalived in 1987. He was the police’s main suspect for decades until 2022 when the true offender was arrested, charged and convicted. He is now reunited with Roxanne. May he rest in peace.

Jill Sobule, singer-songwriter and human rights activist, passed away in a house fire :( "I Kissed A Girl" (NOT the Katy Perry song) was one of the first openly gay songs to be a hit single. She also did "Supermodel" on the soundtrack for the great movie Clueless.

Those of us of a certain age can remember that before elementary school started, the morning after Laugh-in, it was required to analyze and re-do the skits from the night before, just as in high school, the same was true for Monty Python.

I remember Ruth Buzzi's televangelist character ("Do you hear that, friends?"). Youngster that I was, I thought that the character was somehow drawn from many sources and Buzzi's vivid imagination. Years later, watching local television on a visit to Los Angeles, I discovered that Buzzi had actually been doing a spot-on impersonation of one very real woman.

Was it of Kathryn Kuhlman?

Interesting because her Laugh-In cast mate Lily Tomlin also did a character of a television/radio evangelist named Sister Boogie Woman (most likely written by Jane Wagner) whose catchphrases were "Are you on my beam?" and "Don't be late for now".
