I Have Got to Stay Out of Sephora (and other glamourpuss issues)

I used to get perms, and my hair looked awesome. Not sure why it's been 10 years since my last one. A whole decade of bad hair.

Heat from curling irons used on a regular basis not only will fry your hair, it doesn't last. Fine straight hair is very curl resistant. A perm will cause one time damage which if done right, will actually improve your hair's texture and allow you to stay away from hot tools, thereby preserving the health and shine.
I don't see the point of spending time either with hot tools or wet curlers when it will just fall out in the humidity or wind.

All you need to do is comb conditioner through when wet, and then air dry or use a diffuser on warm/ cool. No combing or brushing when dry. Very little product.

By the time it's grown out enough to look noticeably straight on top, it's usually relaxed into a wave. A good cut will make it look natural. Just a bit of scrunching needing. I can ride a perm for a full year.

Now to find a salon who is competent and can still do one.

Picked up a tube of Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede on sale yesterday. Love how silky it goes on, and the color is staying on even after eating a giant Tim Horton's cookie (a co-worker gave it to me!) and drinking my tea. Not sure about the slightly tacky feel of it though, and I put a little of my Nivea lip balm over top. It's a deep wine color just right for fall.

Also, I have finally decided that I love my hair. :glamor:

Revlon used to have a sheer version of the ColorStay. I loved the red, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Everything I like seems to go the way of the buffalo.

I like Revlon's ColorStay eyeshadows. Nothing beats them for staying power if you know you have a long day ahead of you.

Okay all, the verdict is in.

Make Up For Ever Invisible HD stick and liquid foundations are very good. I received a sample of the liquid and I bought the stick foundation. Stick is is kinder to dry skin than the liquid in my opinion. Both blend like a dream and I found a perfect match. I highly recommend.

Smashbox Hydrating Primer Water. Love it. My skin was noticeably smoother and softer when I used over my moisturizer and under my makeup. I used with 5 different foundations(all liquid) and good results.

Marc Jacobs Remarcable Full coverage - excellent foundation but applicator is messy. It has a "dip stick" applicator. Very concentrated and it gives a satin full coverage finish. You use need to use a beauty blender for application. The formula of the foundation requires a stippling/dabbing motion.

Last week I finally nailed my perfect shade of foundation. It is NW10 in Mac Studio Fix Fluid. It is stunning. I am not sure the formula is the best for me, but it is good enough. The only time I had my perfect shade before was when I mixed my own with Face & Body N1 and White.

I also got some goodies from Bobbi Brown blush in Apricot & Pink Dust Trio Lip & bobbi brown cream eyeshadow stick golden pink.

The blush is so lovely and I have no idea why it is called apricot. it is not apricot at all!

I spent 500 of my points while stocking up at sephora on Dr Gross, and got the dramatic Nars package. The red lip crayon goes on really nicely, great texture and shine, but I still think I look like a Disney villainess in red lipstick.

Will try the three-step (!) mascara system later and report.

Wheee! I have a product recommendation for the thread - Nina nail polish. The brush is double thickness so it makes putting on the polish super easy. I had a nail tech tell me once that one of the tricks to a good manicure is loading up the brush with polish when most people go tend to go to skimpy with it. This brush loads it up automatically and it really does make a difference in ease of application and good coverage.

Ducking in from the republican circus to report the three step mascara - primer, mascara and fibers - gave me amazing lashes. Special occasion only but wow.

(I couldn't sit thru the Planned Parenthood travesty of a discussion.)

OMG....why did you do this to me.....??????!!!!! I am such a nail polish whore......I am supposed to be on a no buy...which I have failed at miserably since we are moving into fall and Zoya has some to die for colors for fall. This color reminds me of something that comes out of a baby, but it's gorgeous and I had to have it. Amazon had it cheaper than anyone else and they had free shipping (no Prime membership required, but I have one, for sure!) and I can't wait for it to get here. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BUSIJGGVz...kFQ/Vgap1N6Dahg/s1600/Zoya+Charli+%283%29.jpg I am looking for some blacks. I have a couple, but I'm always looking for new finishes. And they are great to put beneath halographic polishes.

And I'm trying really hard not to look at lipsticks. Again, another obsession. I'm really trying to hold out until Black Friday before I buy anything else. This means not watching any YouTube makeup gurus, because those chicks have a way of making me spend money like no one else. I have more than enough, but some things just can't be helped!

I purchased this set http://m.macys.com/shop/product/estee-lauder-anti-wrinkle-collection?ID=2379228&choiceId=cidCL0011-7d0e0500-1fc5-4c47-8539-d714d80a22a9@H5@you+might+also+like...$30077$2379228 this weekend and I already notice a difference! Wow, so this is how high end skincare works, huh? Man, I'm kicking myself for not trying earlier. Is it true I should use the same thing for 90 days to see if it truly works? Right now I'm so excited about this I'm ready to try Skinceuticals and my Mom's favorite Obagi!

@FiveRinger Ooooo.... Zoya.... me likeee! I'm wearing Essie's Material Girl right now.

@myhoneyhoney I am getting that set for my mom for her birthday. She loves it!

I am impressed with wet n wild nailpolishes. Zoya, Essie and Opi are 20$ here so I almost never buy them...

I will have to do another clean out of nail polishes. Lets see how that works out...

I still can't get mine under 100 bottles :shuffle:
I don't wear about 60% of them anymore, but "this color is great, I can't just throw it out!"...

My nail polish obsession has gone out of control... I'm not counting. That is what happens when you get a nail polish subscription, they keep sending you 'great deals' and you join a facebook fangroup...

My favorite though is the indie brand ILNP (I love nail polish). Awesome, awesome polishes.

Question about eyeshadow recommendations:

I am looking for a palette which:
- is metallic/shimmers (or mostly so)
- is colorful
- fits in my makeup purse, so not too big
- $40 or under.

I have a neutrals/browns covered, so I am looking for something with some difference in color, and not too many browns. So far I am looking at Smashbox Double Exposure Travel and LORAC PRO Metal.

Do you guys have any opinion on those? Anything else I should consider?

thanks!

Urban Decay usually has a few mini-palettes available - often with their more colourful shades, and most are semi-sparkly to very sparkly. I have several :)

The LORAC pro metal is getting good reviews online.

I would go with that one over the Smashbox.

Thanks guys! I ended up going with the LORAC - pleased so far. I understand the good reviews, holy batman pigmentation.

I have seen two nights of Mariinsky ballet and half the corps and the principal are rocking red lipstick. Needless to say, they look amazing, but then they'd look amazing in black punk rock lipstick too. Le sigh.

@myhoneyhoney, I love that color! Very pretty. The only thing I like about the cooler/cold weather is fashion!

What has your overall experience with Essie polish been? In the past I have had isues with it chipping horribly, but I am wondering if I should give them another go. I have changed top coats since then. And that could be the difference.

I can't keep Essie on my nails for longer than 24 hours without chipping.

I do love their colors though.

Their colors are lovely, but thats about it... I dont know if things were better before LOreal bought them.

Some of the best drugsstore (in price) nailpolishes are Golden Rose. Sadly, idont see USA option (US site has no newer products), but Here is on UK site. Their colors, lasting and application - AMAZING.
