I used to get perms, and my hair looked awesome. Not sure why it's been 10 years since my last one. A whole decade of bad hair.
Heat from curling irons used on a regular basis not only will fry your hair, it doesn't last. Fine straight hair is very curl resistant. A perm will cause one time damage which if done right, will actually improve your hair's texture and allow you to stay away from hot tools, thereby preserving the health and shine.
I don't see the point of spending time either with hot tools or wet curlers when it will just fall out in the humidity or wind.
All you need to do is comb conditioner through when wet, and then air dry or use a diffuser on warm/ cool. No combing or brushing when dry. Very little product.
By the time it's grown out enough to look noticeably straight on top, it's usually relaxed into a wave. A good cut will make it look natural. Just a bit of scrunching needing. I can ride a perm for a full year.
Now to find a salon who is competent and can still do one.
