I Have Got to Stay Out of Sephora (and other glamourpuss issues)

The thing is to use Seche Vite on top of Essie or any polish for longevity. I don't have a problem with Essie. The two Chanels are the worst nail polishes in my collection, glad they were gifts.

@FiveRinger I really like Essie polishes. They last as long on me as OPI, sometimes longer. I do swipe my nails with polish remover and let it completely dry before putting on Essie Ridge Filling base coat. Sometimes I don't use base coat at all. Essie lasts about 6 days on me before chipping. The nail tips fade a bit but not bad at all. I agree with IceAlisa, Seche Vite top coat makes polish last longer.
As for other brands, Most Sally Hansen, Revlon, and Wet N' Wild polishes chip within 2 days. I also don't like Butter London, waste of $$ on my nails!

Speaking of polish, just put on OPI Jinx last night for the weekend.

I need to sand the nail surface, apply base coat and top coat if I'm to have any chance of staying chip free for more than two days.
Even with OPI.

Thanks everyone. I swear by Seche Vite and, believe it or not, and of the Sally Hansen top coats. My favorite is Hard as Diamonds with the black bottle and silver top. I might buy one bottle of Essie to see if I have better luck. I admit that I am skeptical. I am an Opi girl and more recent Zoya fan.

I am a busy person. I don't have time to be dealing with chipped nail polish. I need a manicure to last at least a week. And frankly, it Essie's price point is too high for that. But we'll see.

The only ones that last more than 24 hours on me without chipping are CoverGirl outlast nail polish (super affordable) and Sally Hansen Miracle Gel.

I've tried Seche Vite and it makes no difference on me.

I'm getting mostly gels these days. I'm an anxious, chronic nail biter, and as soon as something chips, I can't stop myself. So gels it is.
(except I start peeling them off somewhere around week 2, but oh well, it's longer than just regular manicures)

@myhoneyhoney.....I will see what I can find. I am headed to Marshalls next week for new towels so maybe I will luck into some.

And I use Orly bonder base coat. With a top coat my manicures last more than a week, closer to 10 days. And I do a moderate amount of housework daily.

For me it's not just daily housework, it's also my bookstore job. I'm in charge of the entire Bargain Book department, and so I am constantly lifting, moving, shifting, shoving, piling and sliding large quantities of books about. I won't have nice hails or hands as long as I am at this job.

I'm somewhat in the same boat as quartz - doesn't seem to matter what I wear, I'm lucky to make it more than a day without chipping. I think it must have a lot to do with the way I type on the keyboard at work. I can sometimes get away with a paler colour or a glitter for 2 or 3 days, but anything dark, 1 day is about all I get. I've ended up that I change my polish just about every night. I tried the base coat, two coats of polish, topcoat thing - took me over two hours (for the drying time between coats) and it chipped just as fast as just one quick coat of colour (which takes 10 minutes, tops). 10 min. every day or two is manageable, two hours is not. So I pretty much change every day or two (besides, get to use my many colours more often this way - I could easily wear a different colour every day for more than a month with no repeats). I'll do one quick coat if it is a lighter colour, darker colours I'll do one quick-drying base coat and then one coat of colour.
I've not tried seche vite though - I think I need to get my hands on some and give it a try.

I love Chanel polishes. I use Sally Hansen dual base and top coat, and my pedis never chip - at times I've gone weeks with it still looking like new, if it weren't for my nails growing!

Regular polish doesn't work for me either. VinyLuxe sometimes works for about a week, but if I need something to be guaranteed to look good for more than 2 days, I have to go to gel.

So i tried to out clutter my nail polishes.
Here are the results. First photo is what I am keeping, second what I am tossing/donating. I am also giving some mini Essies to mom and a red Anny nail polish.

Since I stink at polishing my own nails, I have no collection at all. I think I have one bottle somewhere to stop runs in nylons, which of course I haven't worn in years....

I splurged on the Givenchy miniature perfume set at Duty Free. :shuffle: I already love the Dahlia Noir and think that's going to be a big-bottle purchase. The other four I'll wear over four days and see what I like. I can tell by smelling the bottles that none of them are complete stinkers. As it were.

Anyone have an undereye cream that works well on dark circles? No wrinkles, just brutal dark circles

Different topic -- I will be an evil villain for Halloween, and just learned how to completely cover my eyebrows (glue stick, then makeup) so that I can draw in the high arches! This is going to be so fun! I would like to learn how to do real theatrical makeup someday.

Needed deodorant, so I ran into my local drugstore. They had Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick on sale for $3.99. So I bought "Violet Frenzy" which is a super dark purple. I bought it cuz it matches my new purse. :p

I have decided that although the Revlon Colorstay does actually stay, it gets clumpy on me, which I don't find particularly attractive, so I won't get that again.

Remember when I asked about the NARS birthday gift? Well I never picked it up because I haven't been to the mall in ages. I mentioned to my kid that I never picked it up and wondered if they'd let me have it a month late. She says: was that some lipstick thing? Me: yes. Her: I have it.

Yes, my kid stole my birthday gift!

(I made her give it back even though she'd used one of them. Because it was the color I wanted the most.)

She uses my Sephora card (just gives them the phone number) whenever she goes. That way we can get the best ranking that neither of us can get on our own. I suspect they offered it to her and she took it. And then conveniently "forgot" to tell me.

I got Sache Vite base and top coat the other day. Lets see how they work. WIll keep you all updated :)

What do you think about brown nail polish trend for this fall?

Not a fan, unless a mahogany brown. There's something odd and off putting about most shades.

When I was a teenager, coffee brown was the only "different" color that we had, so I wore it A LOT.
I wouldn't go for it today.

What kind of brown? Examples, please. :)

Dark chocolate brown like Chanel Chataigne--yay, café au lait--nay for me. Of course, I wouldn't buy Chanel but like the color.

This one is cool. I'd wear it.

Since I have dark skin, I have stayed away from dark browns. That would just be too weird. But, here lately there have been so new ones that have come out with some glitter, so they are worth exploring. Brown polish has come a long way from what I remember in my teens, lol. I do like taupes, beiges and lighter browns though, since they are what would be neutral for me.

I'm surprised I like (some of) the brown nail polish trend. I'm usually a light grey/taupe or bright red/blue kind of girl.

I hate to suggest a drugstore nail polish, but the Revlon Gel stuff was shockingly good. I haven't had regular nail polish last so long ever. I bought the Essie (my favourite brand) Gel Topcoat and it's not nearly half as impressive.
