I Have Got to Stay Out of Sephora (and other glamourpuss issues)

Yes, well there is still the issue of lack of courage! And that, I cannot buy in any store. :slinkaway
Start doing it at home, by yourself. Take it all off before anyone comes back if you don't feel like keeping it.
It's how I got comfortable with make up.

I already wear a shitload of makeup, as you can see! And I have tried variations on my look at home, but have not been comfortable with them. As for my hair, well it's about as tamed as it's ever going to be, it will never be sleek and elegant.
One time, quite a few years ago, I tried wearing red lipstick. Totally freaked my husband out because it looked so odd on me! :D

I wore bright pink lipstick on the weekend and my son wiped it all off my lips. I don't think he liked it.

I bought myself a Lancome Star Bronzer Natural Glow in 04 Glimmer.

I do like it alot. It was $55 bucks though.....way too much.

But sometimes a girl gotta do what a girl gotta do.... :saint:

I need a blusher in a deeper shade. Because I'm tan. And at this stage in my life, wearing SPF50 and keeping my skin white is so besides the point (not to mention that two weeks in the Middle East pretty much guarantees some tan even with me slinking from shadow to shadow.)

Anyway, I have time in NY this weekend, I'm all out of Dr. Gross pads anyway so have to visit Sephora, and hope for fun playing with blushes.

I use SPF 30, it's in my moisturizer, and I will also put more sunscreen on if I will be out in the sun. But I try to avoid sun as much as possible. Unlike PRlady, I am NOT tan. :D

Oh, and due to friggin allergies bothering my eyes, I have forgone the smudgy eyeliner and shadow I normally do, and just have a light brushing of mascara on. So I do have a different "look" today! :p

Bolonge. I don't beleive it.

Red is a color that looks good on everyone. You just have to find the right "red" for you. Blue-red lipsticks look good on 80% of people. If that is not your color, think try a pink/red, coral/red or a orange red. What is your complexion and your skin's undertone? I'll recommend a few for you and some application choices. Also, a satin or matte finish is not so in your face like a shine finish.

Pics of reds on me:

Make Up For Ever Artist Intense Lipstick in #43(Moulin Rouge) - Orange based red

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte - Oxblood Burgundy

A post a few more later :)

I haven't found a real red that looks good on me. I can wear sort of a russet or siena color.

@topaz, I am very fair skinned with pink undertones, light greeny blue eyes and currently a caramel blonde. Nothing with any hint of orange/coral/brown suits me.(sorry, just changed my avatar from me to my Kitten, so you cant see my face, probably to the relief of many :p)
You may have just encouraged me to try red again, since it has been so long, You are correct in saying that satin or matte is a better choice for me.
I don't think high gloss looks good on me....looks like I have slobbered drool all over myself. :D

I think it is harder to do reds when you have lighter hair, skin and eyes. Witness Gracie Gold...I am fairly light skinned as well with blue greeny eyes (they lean more blue, I assume yours lean more green?), and currently a fairly light blonde hair color. My underlying tone is more peachy, and I find that only the reds with a brownish undertone work for me. Maybe I just don't like the orange-y ones. And forget about the blue-ish ones. I also find that because red stands out so strongly with fair skin that I only like red for occasions not every day make-up.

I have fair skin with pinkish undertones. I have decided life is too short to not wear bold lipstick, so I just try all sort of shades. I think a bright red looks great, though I need to get used to the first look in the mirror :P.

The only think I feel I can't wear is very pale pink (my lips are naturally dusky rose, and making them too pale looks odd) and orange. Well, maybe I should try orange one day.

me in bright red (though in the shade)
with pink lips (doesn't look bright here, but I took so many pics outside, I am crap at the whole selfie thing)

^^^ I love the red on you! :glamor:
I think part of my reluctance with red is that I see it more for youthful faces. I'm afraid it will look too harsh on my aged face. But I will try red again, even if I just laugh hysterically at myself. :p

Two keys to wearing red lipstick is exfoliating prior to, adding a lip balm and using a lip liner. Lip liner helps to keep the lipstick from
feathering/bleeding.

Reds -

Drugstore(Go to Ulta. They are always running a 2 for 1 sale. Also, you can return it even if opened.

NYX Matte Lipsticks in Bloody Mary, Perfect Red
Revlon Color Sensationals in Very Cherry, Ruby Star and Red Revival.

Also, I wanted to add in regards to "shine" lips. Try wearing your regular lipstick with one layer. Blot with a tissue and then apply a clear gloss only in the middle of the iips(on the bottom lip in the middle). Press lips together and tell me what you think

Ooh that Bite one looks awesome on you! I was just looking at those in Sephora today.

I only went in for perfume samples, and mainly to sniff Caudalie Divin, which was blechhy. I ended up with Caudalie's the des vignes and Nest's Indigo. My nose seems to have turned against 99% of perfumes, so I was excited to find two that I liked.

Quartz, how about a tinted lip balm in red? You get the color but not as intense and opaque. It'll also won't be shiny or matte, just a more natural sheen. Maybe something like Burt's Bees tinted lip balm in Red Dahlia.

HAD to go to Sephora today, because I was all out of the sainted Dr. Gross peel pads and Benefit Gimme Brow.

I managed to keep myself to purchasing only one other thing. Now that I have a slight tan, NARS Maui The Multiple is the perfect blush. Absolutely perfect. It has the slightly warmer tint that Orgasm lacks. Finally, success, at least until September.

Also I can't stand myself in red lipstick. I've managed to retain fairly full lips for an old lady and it just takes over my face. Berry and dusty pinks are my go-tos.

I look weird in red lipstick too. I can pull off a pinker, watermelon type of colour, but red just doesn't work for me. I'm trying to brighten my look for summer, but it's hard to break neutral makeup habits.

I lament the loss of "Ruby Melt" in Clinique's "Almost Lipstick"
A sheer red; the only one I've ever worn successfully.

Okay, glamorous ladies, I went and bought a cheap drugstore brand red lipstick just to try.
It's called FLAME RED and at least in drugstore lighting looked like a fairly pure red, with no orangey tones.
Still skeptical that this pasty white wallflower can pull off something so vivacious, but I do have the ability to laugh hysterically at myself if it's a fail. :drama:

:wuzrobbed x1000 my new favourite skincare brand Omorovicza is no longer shipping through sephora.ca!! I blame Holt Renfrew - they just started carrying it last year and no doubt were losing sales to Sephora once they got customers turned on to it. So now I have to shlep downtown, and worse, no VIB points or talking advantage of sale events!!

*sulk*

The only red lip I wear is Revlon Lip Butter in Cherry Tart.

It's sheer and looks good on me. I'm not sure if I can pull a strong red lip.

I love the sheer tints available from Fresh Sugar lip treatment.
It's also SPF15. Smells and tastes good too!
Best lip balm ever, and worth the price. And during the holidays, you can get sets of little ones in multiple colors.

Red lipstick + quartz = FAIL!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. :D

It may look okay, but it feels wrong on me. I am just not the vavoom type who can pull off such a femme fatale look. Back to my old lady mauve!

What brand makes the lipstick Quartz? Did you get a red lip liner
Try the blotting technique - use a lip brush or use the lipstick out of the tube. apply one layer, press lips together and then use a tissue and blot the lips.

Also,

If your avatar picture is the "old lady mauve", I say stick to it, because it's fine :smokin:
(And it looks like a lady that CAN pull red lipstick off, just a matter of finding a proper shade and get used to it. Have you tried looking at a MAC counter/store and ask "I'm looking for red lipstick. Can you help me find one that looks good on me?)

This is a first for me: I went duty free shopping. None of the make up startled me. OK, it's true that I have A LOT of stuff I like and will buy again when the time comes, but still.
Hair products however... :D
