I Have Got to Stay Out of Sephora (and other glamourpuss issues)

I am going back to just my blonde and caramel highlights for the summer and will probably do the burgundy in the fall again.

Any suggestions for pale pink summer lipsticks? I have tried three (sorry don't have them with me and I can't remember what they are, but they are all inexpensive drug store varieties) and they all make me look washed out. Or am I just too fair skinned to do pale lips and need to stick to the stronger colors?

Also, skin tags. Help! I would prefer to try home remedies first. Anyone have suggestions?

I wear Dior Addict Lipstick in sheer pink. It's slightly pinker than my natural lip tone. I'm super fair-skinned (I joke that my skin is transparent) and this is a nice colour for me. The kind ladies at Sephora helped me find a pink that works. ;)

I just use my nails to pinch the bottom of the tag as close to the flat skin as possible, hold for a minute, then cover with a Bandaid. Mine fall off a couple of days after pinching them. I don't know if that would work elsewhere.

I dashed into Target quickly the other night and noticed a Maybelline ad for "Chaotic" mascara, which is essentially just super clumpy looking lashes that they instruct you to purposefully apply in crazy zig-zags. I know similar lashes were seen on a lot of the spring runways, but some of the looks are really globby with crooked, stuck together lashes. :scream: And this is coming from someone who has long lashes and likes wearing heavier amounts of mascara.

I dropped about $100 at Clinique yesterday. :shuffle: Got my BB cream, a new lipstick and then they have a bonus bag for $34.50 that has some awesome eyeshadows in it and also a full size mascara, which I needed anyway, so.....

:shuffle:

Ouch! I think mine are way too tiny to really pinch. And some are right underneath my eyes. Not sure that technique would work in my case.
But thanks!

Whoops, sorry. Mine typically appear under my arms along my bra line. Easy to pinch. I wouldn't mess with the eye area either!

I really like the Almay version of lip butters - smart shade, I think. They smell exactly like MAC lipsticks. My lips are pretty pigmented so pale lipsticks often look super bizarre on me, but they're just sheer enough to be very flattering. I have the Pink Light one. Maybe go with a bit of a darker eye when you want to wear pale lips?

Has anyone used the Frizz Ease Dream Curls products? My hair has gotten much wavier as I've gotten older, to the point where I'm almost able to wear it wavy. I need something to encourage the waves on the top of my head where the hair is straighter, otherwise the outer layer of my hair is straight and all the waves are under it. Looks ridiculous. I got the daily styling spray, which has really mixed reviews online.

I haven't made a purchase at Sephora in several months. I want to try some new foundations(Dior Star and Nars Weightless) and pick up some Marc Jacobs lipsticks.

I'm thinking of trying out Estee Lauder's double wear foundation. I normally don't wear or like full coverage foundation, but I've heard this one actually makes the skin look like skin.

I've used Estee Lauder Double Wear and I really like it. I actually prefer the Double Wear Light. It lasts just as long but isn't as thick or heavy.

I don't know anything about the Frizz Ease products, but I have a somewhat similar situation with my hair. I have sections that are pretty much ringlets if left on their own, and other sections that are more just wavy rather than curly. I have found the Sebastian Whipped Creme to work pretty well. It doesn't feel gunky/stiff on my hair, and it seems to do well enhancing the curl of the just wavy sections and taming the frizz of the quite curly sections at the same time. It is a bit pricey, but not outrageous. I have shoulder-length hair and go through about a can a month.

Thanks! I just ordered a sample size bottle for $2.56 and free shipping on Amazon! :)

My hair is now almost ringlets (too short) from my ears down, very pretty waves from the forehead to the ears, and the top hair nearly straight with maybe one wave at the bottom. But the waves are new in the past year, so I'm hoping the rest will get with the program  Blow drying it is pointless in the summer because the bottom will wave at the slightest hint of dampness, and then I spent 15 minutes sweating bullets for nothing. :wall:

I'll have to get a sample of that. I have dry to normal skin so that may work better for me.

So Glamour Pusses - what are your summer must haves?

Apart from 50+++ SPF, It has to be Cha Cha tint by Benefit for me.

Oil-free Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer is my favourite summer product.I use Lolli-tint by Benefit, a touch of 24-hour Pretty Clinique mascara, and I'm good to go. I love my summer makeup routine.... now I just need to figure out what to do with my hair.

I am still looking for an alternatve for my estee lauder mascara sumptuous waterproof. Now I am trying out LOreal Voluminous Million Lashes Excess and Rimmel London Rockin Curves. Like them both but dont love them
I am back using MAC mineralized skinfinish natural in Light (a treat for my birthday) & am trying out Select Cover up by MAC.
There is an outlet makeup store newly opened and I got myself w7 in the city palette. Very ince dupe of UD Naked basics. I am pleasently surprised by the texture.

Since retiring, I've gone minimalist. Some CoverGirl BB cream with SPF 21 with a Neutrogena lip balm. Add mascara and brow corrector, and I'm good to go.

Update for me:

I mentioned months ago I was changing my style to a more vintage look. Red lpstick, matte/demi matte foundation(I'm still getting use to this one), ect. Most of my foundations I own are luminious/dewy or natural finishes. I went to sephora last week and got samples of Lancome Teint Ultra 24h, Nars Weightless foundation and Diorskin Star. I adore all of them!!!!
Also, Make up For ever just introduced their Ultra HD foundation. The reviews I"ve seen say the foundation is nothing short of fabulous. So I'll be getting a sample of that today. Also, I tried a new concealer. The concealers/correctors I alternate between are Bobbi Brown's corrector, Bobbi Brown concealer and Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. I really like both. The BB, you have to set but a powder and the Nars does not need setting powder. However, I tried Cover FX creamy concealer and I am in love. It is a full coverage concealers and blends into the skin like nobodys business. I did not set it and I did not have any creasing. So big thumbs up for Cover FX. I want to try more of their products.

Back to vintage look, I'll post of pictures of my favorite lippies later today.

@topaz, I'd like to see your whole vintage look! Hair, wardrobe, all of it!
I wish I had the courage to experiment with different looks, but at my age I am pretty much set in my disheveled thrift store style.

Quartz you should go for it! Makeup is the easiest thing to change, and perhaps try styling your hair a bit differently. And some call it thrift store, others call it vintage :)

Yes, well there is still the issue of lack of courage! And that, I cannot buy in any store. :slinkaway
