Had age rule not kept Asada out of 2006 Olympics/Worlds would she be best ever today?

Even the newly adjusted age rule would have allowed Asada, who turned 16 in that calendar year, to compete at the 2006 Olympics and 2006 worlds. She most likely would have won both, as she was the clear favorite after the GPF where she thrashed previous OGM favorite Slutskaya, and the weak competition at the Games with Slutskaya crumbling, Cohen falling, and Arakawa doing a watered down routine (while bit contenders behind those other favorites like Kostner, Kwan, Ando had major issues or didnt even compete) makes that seem even more likely.

She would be a 4 time Champion, OGM, and OSM at minimum. Quite possibly though she wouldnt have felt the same pressure at the 2014 Olympics in her short program and might have medaled or even won there too. Doing this in the deepest era of skaters ever under the most complicated scoring system ever, along with her 4 grand prix final titles, Four Continents titles, and being regarded an outstanding artist who is also technically groundbreaking and devastating would she been seen as the best female skater ever today? As it is she is instead in the shadow of Yu Na Kim even in her own era.

She also probably would have handled the pressure on home ice better at the 2007 worlds, although that is speculation. Still it really erases pressure when you already have the titles.

She is the best female skater ever already!
Even better then Butyrska? I thought you were a fanatic of her's!

My wife and I were thrilled when Mao landed her triple Axles during the Olympics! Watching all those rotations made me want to run around my block three and a half times! I hope Galustyan can upgrade her jumps during the time off she has from skating right now.

Michelle and Mao are my favorite skaters and favorite Olympic Silver Medalists.

IJS’s little rule about cleanly rotated jumps really did a number on Asada’s confidence. Her early technique was deeply imprinted in her muscle memory making changes difficult to execute under pressure. I get why she went to Tarasova but there she was ; no 3/3, so 3sal and choreography that was better suited for the bride of Frankenstein. Still , she and Michelle have made being a fan of skating worth it.

To directly answer what i think your question, is ; yes, she would have been the Olympic champion most likely , given what we know now. Is she the best skater? She definitely is a legend.

Best skater ever is between only 3 women- Yu Na Kim, Mao Asada, and Evgenia Medvedeva. So she arguably is already, especialy if Medvedeva does not win here which takes her out of the hunt entirely.
