Gymnastics News #23: Defying Gravity

Frustrating to see Colin Still still as the lead coach for the GB women, picking up his coaching award standing next to them for the medal ceremony.
He's the one accused of verbally abusive coaching in the past and ongoing favouritism. Unsure why he's still in place.

I don't like this format as having the AA as an afterthought of the quali. The AA is always been my favourite part of gymnastics competitions.
This is very weird for me.
Agreed, I didn’t like this format either for the AA

Info for the USA gymnastics championships starting today. I plan on watching some of the podium training, and the links are in the above.

On another note, I find their regular homepage frustrating. They should push their biggest event more and make the info easier to find. Even on Google the first several links take me to T&T and Acro sites and events. I appreciate they are trying to promote those lesser known disciplines but they seem to have created different slightly named organizations for them and clicking on one does lead you to the other.

Honestly, I feel like they make US figure skating look like they’re organized.

I just want to rant about how much I dislike following gymnastics on twitter. The vibe is all hinky, people post videos but don't say who the video is of and act like it's a big state secret. As a community, gymnastics fans on Twitter are right PITA.

Message boards are, of course, far superior.

I think so too but sadly this thread is not much visited at the moment :-( do you have a different message board for gymnastics that is like FSU? I felt a bit alone during Euros here in this thread.

Anyway, just came across this for anyone who is interested:

I've had the gymnastics on in the background all afternoon and ended up not seeing any of it as I was focused on proper work issues as I should be - but things are starting to get calmer now and I hope to catch the end of the Men's 3 sub at 5.

:cheer:
Edit - oops, the British men are in the same sub as the German men. Result: we're seeing none of the British men. Oh well.

I can feel your pain ?
Thank you. It actually turned out ok - I got some more work done and then we saw a whole lot of British men :cheer:
They're going well too, as is Spain :cheer: and it was great to see Merdynian nail his routine too. So many good routines all around in this sub!

But my Ukrainian team is some kind of disaster ?
Of course, I understand everything, but I was expecting a better performance :(

I would love to join in on the Euros talk but I don't have any way to watch it here! I will be watching the US Champs this weekend though so I will come back and visit this thread with some talk about that event if anyone else will be watching that with me. :cheer:

I would be watching if I weren’t in the middle of traveling! Hopefully I’ll be able to watch day 2 for the men and women when I get home.

I apparently no longer get Peacock Premium, but Ragan Smith is uploading the top routines really quickly on her YouTube channel. Konnor McClain's beam and floor are posted, as is Shilese Jones's bars with monster scores. Separately, I am so glad to see those two looking better than ever despite the difficult personal circumstances they have both had over the past year.

I'm watching on flipnow. Wong has withdrawn from floor and vault and i hope she is okay. I'm blown away with how good the top 5 are doing.
Any word on why Wong scratched? I hope it's just a precaution since she is generally strong on floor and vault and maybe wouldn't need to show them.

ETA I just caught Jade Carey's floor on a different YouTube channel, and her dance and performance quality have really improved after competing NCAA.

Konnor's beam and Shilese's bars were the highlights of the night for me overall, but my goodness, there were SOOOO many great performances tonight and I'm super impressed with these young ladies! They all looked really happy too, like they were having fun out there, and I really hope they do this again on Sunday night! :cheer:

BTW-I thought they said that Leanne was nursing an ankle injury and her coaches didn't want to risk making it worse so they were taking her out of the rest of the competition (I think her last two events were FX and VT so that might have been a smart choice). Hopefully she's all right overall.

What a wonderful night of competition! So good to see the woeMen compete so well and I’m thrilled for Shilese Jones who seems to have been underrated. Conner was great as well. Chellsie was a refreshing change from Tom Forster and NBC’s team was a tad less irritating than usual.
