Gymnastics News #23: Defying Gravity

Did I see Suni Lee in a commercial for Amazon the other day? If so, she was showing off the stuff she got for her dorm.

Gymnastics fans will find this both painful to watch and intriguing.

Leanne Wong won US Classic, Shilese Jones second. Of the favorites, Kayla DiCello, Konnor McLain, Katelyn Jong scratched. Brody Malone won the mens.

I was going to ask about Konnor McLain. I thought I saw her lined up in front of the judges but then there were never scores.

I just realized I have a meeting in Tampa the Monday morning after US Nationals... Guess what I am doing the night before my meeting :) Lots of tickets available (Guess the loss of "the Simone effect" is kind of like the loss of the Kween)

maybe geoblocked?

European Championships:
Thanks for posting this! This seems to be an archive of the first two groups. And it's not geoblocked for me in Canada.
It's also being streamed with english commentary here https://www.eurovisionsports.tv/ (though there are no commentators at the moment). https://www.eurovisionsports.tv/

I don't like this format as having the AA as an afterthought of the quali. The AA is always been my favourite part of gymnastics competitions.
This is very weird for me.

It was quite an enjoyable competition when I block out the weird format. The Italians and the British team was great. I did not see much from France.
Netherlands, Germany and Belgium also had some very good performances.
Best moment was Asia D'Amato going into the lead and then not being able to watch her sister compete on uneven bars because she was too nervous for her. Alice then qualified first in uneven bars!
I felt for Martina Maggio who fell on her last event and was devastated - only to be in tears of joy one minute later when she realized that she won bronce. I don't know if she would have won gold otherwise? Not much in teknik anymore in gymnastics since about 1996, the golden era I still miss

after first rotation:

Germany ahead of France but only by a few tenth which is good news for France - in qualification Germany was ahead on bars and beam and France on vault and floor and the difference on bars was 1.5 points compared to only a few tenths now.

1ITA
Italy
41.566
2GBR
Great Britain
41.366
3GER
Germany
40.833

four falls in three exercises for France at beam

GB, Germany and Italy look good. D'Amato had trouble on bars as did Achampong but from what I saw, rest was good.

I'm not sure if Jennifer Gadirova has had a chronic injuries for the past two years but it's such a shame - she's downgraded her difficulty and doesn't do AA anymore. She was so promising as a junior.

GMF has also massively downgraded her UB in the past few years and I'm not sure why because her other pieces are the same or improved.

Fall from Jennifer Gadirova on beam.

I like both Gadirovas, but I am so annoyed by the names - they are so interchangeable to me and I can never remember who is who. Why name your kids this way?
