There's no team competition. We don't really HAVE to put anyone but AAers on bars if no one has medal potential, and Greaves doesn't. I don't see going with the top 4 AA as a great strategy, but there's nothing really wrong with their team either. No one but Wong an DiCello has ANY medal potential, so it's kind of a crapshoot? But yes, it does seem like Greaves actually had the better meet than McClain and would probably deserve to go a bit more. Mostly the two that aren't Leanne and Kayla are just there for the experience.
Yeah I hear you. I’d have liked to have seen them maximize numbers on each event, but this year is just weird. In the end I think McClain has medal potential on beam if she hits - SO GOOD - but the “if she hits” is a huge question mark. Good to get her the experience. Fingers crossed. (But seriously if they don’t put Wong in the AA I will riot.)

I think the biggest problem with Team USA is they didn’t develop Jade for the team they could have sent someone else to World Cup spots. Jade would have filled in the weak spots nicely. She was a medal threat in two events.

I don’t have a problem with rank order in general though I mean if it’s close between specialist who can only do bars and an all arounder who can do bars you pick the all Arounder

I know they commentators were all they should take Wong I would not have she was to inconsistent.

It’s good they are taking these girls for the experience

I mean ideally yeah you want to be Russia with three great AAers but not everyone gets that.

Talk is Urazova may be doing AA after all. I am glad sad about Andrade but do want her to be healthy

I believe the Olympic Channel is showing live coverage. (I currently don't get that channel any more.) NBCSN has delayed shows on Thurs and Fri night (I think it's 7-9 pm Eastern time). And NBC is airing 90 minutes on Sunday right before Skate America coverage. That's all I know of myself.

Yes, Oly Channel has a mix of live and same day coverage. Beware folks, as it’s mislabeled as World Challenge Cup in the guide. I haven’t checked Peacock yet.

Good god, these prelims are LONG. I did not realize they stretched over two days.
Qualifications usually takes more than one day, but this time it was really unnecessary. It was an individual competition and maximum of three gymnasts per country per apparatus. But they gave each country who registered three gymnasts per apparatus their own rotation. Some subdivisions had only 5 or 6 gymnasts competing IN TOTAL. In AA final they have 6 gymnasts per rotation with one touch warmup. There's no reason they couldn't have had two countries per apparatus in the qualifying. It made matters worse when many countries withdrew or sent fewer athletes than planned after the draw was done.

I just take a deep breath and realize that every country has a different approach to crud precautions. It’s weird, but not entirely unexpected.

Super happy with the Canadian MAG results! Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw William Emard's results. 11th in AA qualification, making finals in Rings (6th qualification) and Vault (8th qualification, lowest difficulty but highest execution of any finalist). It's been a long time since we've had a Canadian male gymnast who can make event finals (dating back to Kyle Shewfelt days), and I can't even remember the last to do this well in an AA competition!

This is so sad that there seem to be no videos at all. Eurosport did not show it apparently - no idea if it was broadcast anywhere else.

It was broadcast in the US on The Olympic Channel. They have MAG tomorrow morning and the event finals as well. AFAIK, you need a US cable subscription to access the replay online at nbcsports.com

Congrats to Melnikova!

Also a great meet by Wong, first GAGE world AA medalist, and DiCello, first Hill's world AA medalist.

Especially interested in watching the Dutch gymnast Visser on the replay. What a result for NED! :cheer2:

The draw for qualifications had nothing to do with cv-19 precautions and is just typical FIG disorganization. The FIG is an organization so incompetent that I find myself constantly praising the ISU in comparison and then I feel very bothered about it.

Russia finally regains the Women’s All-Around World title in Artistic Gymnastics. First since 2010 (Mustafina).

Yes but Melinkova is known to choke under pressure (remember Euros this year? Listunova beat her after she fell twice). I'm so proud of Angelina for nailing her routines. She's really blossomed as a gymnast in the past couple of years.

And I know FSU is full of Americans, but I'm so happy that after 11 years there's a non-American at the top of the podium. Very refreshing and good for the sport!
