Gymnastics News #23: Defying Gravity

For the Olympics qualification, China, Japan and GBR qualified men's teams last year, so it's possible they are using these worlds to try new skillls, new people, etc. T

China sent their A team to Asian Games. They only put three gymnasts up on some events and had some misses.

Interesting. They must feel that's more important?

Did they do the same for the women? Or no, because they didn't qualify an Olympic team last year?

Asian Games were important as they were hosting it. I believe their top women's team is at worlds.
Also one of the Chinese men was supposed to compete floor but did not start, so may have suffered an injury. We've seen China do poorly in qualifying and then win the team final before more than once, but this year is definitely different.

I am also surprised about the team from Italy. Do they have injuries or is this the B-team competing as well? So many big names are missing?

And Netherlands - Sanne Wevers is on the starting list - is the quarrel within the team therefore over? I am so out of it - I get all my information from this thread so if you know any info I am always so glad if someone posts it here.

I saw the British team - is there a reason only one of the Gadirovas is competing?
Jennifer Gadarova is injured according to this article https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/gymnas...artistic-gymnastics-championships_523256.html

A few injuries for Italy unfortunately (Asia D'Amato, Georgia Villa and Martina Maggio).

I was watching Canada on Rings, and the camera angle gives good views of several other apparatus, and I see a good landing on the high bar, and hear cow bells, and sure enough the Swiss are on high bar.

Apparently @airgelaal jinxed the Koreans, and they blew their first rotation on the pommel horse.

I could not! I was so nervous that I went to watch random videos on YouTube.

I'm crying. Half of the team trains in Kyiv and I know how difficult it is. Sleepless nights due to missile attacks, missile attacks during the day and they are without training. Yes, they made a lot of mistakes, but even this performance is a miracle.

so fall on beam for the Netherlands for THorsdottir (twice) and on bars with Alice D'amato

Sanne Wevers hits beam. Although based on her style, is it a hit for her if she misses connections?
that was a beautiful beam set - but I am so out of gymnastic judgind and scoring that I don't even know if her score of 13.733 is high or not?

D'Amato qualifies with the skin of her teeth (well likely at least) same score as the other Italian all-arounder but wins the tie-break

Her D score was way down because she took out the wolf full to one arm flic after the mount as well as the split jump to flic 3/4 after the aerial walkover. Those are both valuable skills but I wonder if the plan was to not do them. This routine was way better than what she did in podium training, based on the video. Should make finals but we'll see how the other teams do. There are a lot of good beam workers in this field.

Was bars supposed to be a weakness for the US team???

Jones- 14.833
Biles- 14.400
Blakely- 14.166
Wong- 13.666 (dropped)

I hope they saved some for later!

Watching the stream, I was thinking that the Americans looked super sharp here.

Beam is less good so far. Leanne a few bobbles, but survived. Skye had a huge disaster. Fell off and a fall on the dismount. Team score should be okay, but she won't make any finals.
