Gymnastics News #15

:rofl: Is there enough room on the podium for all of them? And the audience has to sit through at least 3 national anthems?

Sorry but this uneven bar result is an absolute outrage. Komova was robbed. How did Kocian get the same E score? Kocian barely clears the bar on her inside stalders, her execution is very loose throughout, there's no way she should have been equal with Komova or Spridonova. This is an absolute travesty.

Does the Olympic judging differ - wouldn't execution score have separated those girls - giving 2 golds?

Yeah, the reason why there are tie breaking procedures is because the IOC demanded it for judged sports. For non-Olympic events, FIG accepts ties.

ETA: Komova was robbed. I don't get it. Someone needs to explain it to me because how does her preliminaries score get a higher E score? I, and many others, must have missed something.

4 World champions huh? Idk if they should have all won, but all 4 deserved to be on the podium so can't complain :)

Sorry but I don't think I have ever been this angry at a result. I think an E score of 7.766 would have been more accurate for Kocian. And I actually like her.

I'm very surprised Russia didn't put in an inquiry on Komova's D score. Had they credited a layout Jaeger, she would have won.

I scored most of the routines, but someone interrupted me right when Kocian started, so I didn't score it, but as soon as she landed, I thought, she's not getting a medal today unless Spiridinova messes up. I don't know if 7.766 is right, but 8.766 definitely isn't and I love Madison. I know right off that she had .3 errors on being to close to the bar on the jaeger, the landing, and maybe .5 on the pirouette into the dismount besides everything else.

Komova looked so confused when the score came up that I was sure an inquiry was about to happy, I'm confused as to why it didn't.

This may be a wrong assumption, but there may be some backlash for those horrid comments previously made. I'm not saying it's right. But I wouldn't be surprised.

If there was backlash, she would have scored lower that the Chinese and American competitors.

On second thought it would be the judges saying "here's your gold medals sweety. It's nothing special."

Currently watching the rings final - my shoulders are hurting just sitting here :)

YES!!!!!!! WYNN WIN PLEASE

I'm certainly no rings expert, but Wynn's score seemed a tad low considering that he nailed the dismount. I agree, though, with the Greek gymnast taking the gold. That routine was just very slick and effortless looking.

I know nothing about how to score rings, but it seemed to me that Wynn took several extended rest periods during his set. That might have lowered his score.

Aw, Petrounias overcome with emotion after his win. :) Nice for the country.

And now for the  ceremony. At least they only need three anthems.

why should they play national anthem 3 times and not 4. The anthem is played in the honour of the winning athlete, so athletes national anthem should be played, so repeat Russian anthem. I wonder want they did in 2000 Sydney Olympics swimming where two American sprinters tied (one of them was Gary Hall jr).

Hopefully we get the men's PH ceremony first so I can go make a cup of tea during women's UB ceremony.

Petrounias deserved his win - he was the best today.

I do wish Matt would remember we have 2 medallists' on the PH podium - oh he just did  but please give Louis his due here.

On second viewing it does seem like he was taking a bit too long on those holds.

If there were 2 athletes from the same country who tied for gold, we would only hear the anthem once. How is this different?

Well Ruby did herself proud, she's never performed that routine any better. And finally GB get the pommel 1-2 they've been threatening for years.
The UB scores are hilarious but Kocian is very lucky.
