Gymnastics News #15

Oh no. I hope it's a tweak and not serious injury for Steingruber. :( She has floor EF too...

Paseka takes the lead!

Simone gets vault bronze. Maybe after the Olympics she'll upgrade to a harder second vault. She had the best execution scores.

Simone has to upgrade her second vault if she wants to win gold in this event in Rio. And congrats to Ellie Downie - 4th place in her first worlds. Hopefully she has some upgrades she can work on in the lead up to Rio.

Does it have to be a Cheng? She seems to have trouble upgrading to her planned Cheng.

I said Paseka would likely win but after Hong went I didn't think she could do it. Her Cheng was a complete over score IMO but the amanar was one of her better ones. Simone would be more likely to do a TTY than a Cheng at this point I think.

That was a really ugly vault final IMO :scream:

Boguinskaya was an Olympic champion on vault with much better form. :COP:

I'm really sorry for Julia, that was sad to watch :( I hope it's nothing that'll keep her out more than a couple months.

Men's FX final was good! :kickass: if Kenzo had a double front in there somewhere.. ;) just kidding.

Re. Simone, I really don't think vault gold is worth the risk of upgrading. Especially on an event where we've already seen that you can be the absolute favourite and still blow it.

I think you're right Lara. It's just so weird that Simone has "easily" upgraded on the other apparatuses. Even her FX has increased in difficulty from 2013 and she's planning another upgrade on the last pass, and yet the Cheng (that we've heard about for the past three seasons) has eluded her. But then one can't have everything and it's probably one of those things.

At least not before the Olympics.

Even if Simone upgraded to a Mustafina it would add .4 and make the SV a 6.0 - if she could go 9.4+ on it there you have it. She's also used to landing forwards, I think maybe that should be the next upgrade for her. A TTY at 2017 worlds will be good with me, I have a feeling she'll do at least one more worlds.

I totally agree with this. Why tempt fate? It is going to be enough to remain in a good mental and physical state for the next 10 months without her having to increase her difficulty. She's got enough difficulty already. Her best shot for an Olympic gold medal would the the team, AA, and floor, and beam too if she can qualify. But you can't win the medals if you're not there. I am not a teknik, but I would guess that the vault is the event with the most risk for the reward, in her case.

Maria Paseka's form was pretty gross in the launch. Hong's vaults looked better to me. Simone has the best execution by far and best amplitude and distance. Simone needs to be perfect to outweigh Hong and Paseka's higher DVs and that puts a lot of pressure on her to perform as perfectly as possible, so she gets disappointed with a hop even though everything else looks great.

Would Simone have won had she not taken that big hop on landing the first vault? She seemed very disappointed with the bronze. Sh mostly smiled but I saw a hint of Mykala's side-mouth when she took her 3rd place position on the podium.

And Smith surely earns a ticket to Rio on PH alone. Wow! He's come a long way from when he earned his first silver (I thought he was pretty sloppy at the time). :cheer:

Tremendous routine from Louis - I just love the guy!!!!!!!!!!

ETA: And he has a medal just not sure of the colour!!!

ETA2: And with that fall GB has a world title just not sure of the name of the winner ;)

Gold and silver to the GB on pommel horse - who'd have thunk it:D:cheer2::encore:. Congrats to Max but I so wanted Louis to get it so bittersweet. I expect Louis is pleased after his comeback though.

ETA: Max is having a great meet- just a pity about the AA final. He will be one of our multiple medal hopefully for Rio.

I don't know anything about PH, but it was surely exciting. However, I thought Louis Smith's PH was more fun to watch.

Two events into MAG event finals and a Spanish and Armenian man have earned a medal, hope the diversity in the medals continues :)

I knew Max was excellent but I didn't expect him to beat Louis. He had a 0.1 edge in SV though and can't fault the execution. Congrats! :)

Do all Worlds have these rock star intros for EF? I really like them. It gives every gymnast a chance to get individualized celebratory attention before their performance.

That was a really exciting PH final :rockstar: Louis was a little bit slower getting into the dismount compared to Max and it made the .1 difference IMO, really great sportsmanship from both.

Go Gabby go :inavoid: and Scheder :cheer:

Komova already pouting as she walks out announced. :drama:

I wonder if the Chinese, American, and British gymnasts in the UB final heard what Komova said about them after Team Finals.

That PH final was really great. And I'm already over Komova.

And I love Bogie's bitch-face!
