He appears to have withdrawn as he is still showing 2 apparatus to complete and everyone else is on their last apparatus. Unsure what happened to him on floor but he must have injured himself.

So Max produces a flawless floor routine to finish but the fall on high bar cost him a medal. Better this year than next I suppose.
 
I totally respect Uchimura. He makes mistakes here and there and may get the benefit of the doubt, but he is a true all arounder with not a single glaringly weak event.
 
Manrique wins silver - and is on the way to the Olympics - and Uchimura wins Gold. Max Whitlock finishes in 5th - .85 out of the bronze position - so the fall cost him here. Onto the events finals tomorrow and if he reproduces that pommel horse routine he may have another medal there.

Sigh - why do I listen to the BBC commentators - specifically Matt Baker :(. So does Manrique have any chance of making the Olympics? Can he attend the test event at least or does that make no sense as he doesn't have a team to compete with? It doesn't make sense that a man who wins an AA medal at Worlds doesn't get a chance of an Olympic spot!!
 
I can only hope FIG alters the rules to allow gymnasts like Iordache and Larduet to compete in Rio. It is just silly that AA medalist don't qualify for the Olympics but EF medalist do. :(

And Iordache has medaled twice in the last 2 years in the AA at Worlds....surely that counts for something.
 
All these sports governing bodies seem to surround themselves in their very own versions of the "reality distortion field".

Iordache and Larduet will qualify easily at the test event, but they shouldn't have to. I'm not so sure Berki has an opportunity however, IIRC he'll have to compete AA at the test event and get in that way? leaving t all up to one competition when they do have a rankings system in place is just ludicrous.

Random: post on Twitter was laughing at the fact that Ellie Black is a reserve after Wevers for the floor despite the fact that Black does all of Wevers' tumbles in one pass :lol:

Devastated for Max tonight, but I swear as soon as I saw that score on pommel I thought...."he's going to fall on high bar"...and so it came to pass. Who is the Brazilian dude with the unbelievable quiff and ridiculous good looks -and how does he keep his hair so slick doing a freaking AA :respec: I'm jealous.

On a final snarky note, the more I see Biles' beam the more WTF I am about that score, at least .5 too high! It bothers me that a veritable fall on beam and a two feet landing outside the floor can still win by so much and bring in scores on those events that still slay the field. I don't like it.

Iordache cannot qualify at the test event; her team can. Even if they do not, Romania is guaranteed to earn one individual spot by qualifying as a team to the test event. If they only get one spot, they can give it to whomever they want.

If Larduet does not medal in apparatus finals (he's in three), he will have to compete at the test event in the AA to qualify, but if he were to miss the test event due to injury or illness, he would not be qualified. The rules are stupid. I guess the FIG never thought a gymnast not in the top 12 teams in the world would be able to medal in the all-around...

That really is an amazing tumbling pass, it boggles my mind every single time I see it. If only the rest of her routine had a 2 1/2 step out in it (innit).
 
There is always tripartite invitation if these athletes don't qualify especially for the Olympics. If the criticism is heavy FIG will announce they will give the tripartite inv invitational position to Larduet and then if he qualifies through the AA at the test event they will give this position to someone else. The most likely outcome is him getting a medal in the individual event at this worlds.
 
There is NO way Larduet wont be at Rio, the special spots reserved for the tripartite invitation are for this cases, I can even easily see one of those given to Chusovitina if she doesnt qualify directly, as a recognition to her career and what she has done for gymnastics.

True, but then Gabby's beam was a wobble-fest as well. It didn


Manrique is insanely talented. He definitely can upgrade floor and a throw Dragulescu on vault by next year, and probably work on his pommels too. This looked incredibly easy for him, the amplitude was impressive.
 
It was such a pleasure to watch Larduet, what little we got! More please!
 
Cuba and Uzbekistan are not eligible for a tripartite commission placing.

"Invitation Places can only be allocated to NOCs with an average of eight (8) or less athletes (athlete quota places) in individual sports/disciplines at the last two editions of the Olympic Games (Beijing and London)."

The countries must apply for the spot and per FIG rules they must have participated at either 2015 world championships and/or the Olympic Test Event.

A friend of mine did the calculations and says that Bolovia and Monaco are the two countries eligible for MAG.

For WAG the eligible countries who competed at worlds 2015 are: Bolivia, Cayman Islands, Honduras, Malta, Monaco, and Panama.
 
I guess you'd need the equivalent of the ISU Congress to amend the qualification rules, but it's stupid they didn't include AA in the first place. :wall:

Manrique *should* easily qualify at the test event given his current form, so hopefully he'll stay healthy and it'll be moot.

I hope he stays fit and healthy for the test event and doesn't have an off day - stupid he hasn't qualified with the AA silver medal but hopefully that forces a change in the rules!!
 
Nice to see that Kenzo has added a double-double. IIRC his routine in the past never included a double salto and that irked me a bit.
 
Wow - Kenzo Shirai is AMAZING on the floor - no way anyone can beat that!!!

ETA: And Max had a silver medal on the floor - congrats to him. And he still has pommel final to go.
 
I think Simone is going to be a bit hard-pressed to pass Hong here, unless she magically throws a Cheng. :slinkaway
