Time for a new thread!

There is a USA Gymnastics training camp this week. Hezly Rivera, Leanne Wong, Joscelyn Roberson and Skye Blakely are there. I knew Joscelyn and Skye were planning a return to elite, but nice to see Leanne going for it after an uncharacteristic performance at NCAAs. ETA: pictures appear to show Shilese Jones is there too!

Artistic Pan American Women’s Assignments:
Dulcy Caylor
Jayla Hang
Gabrielle Hardie
Hezly Rivera
Tiana Sumanasekera
Alt. Alessia Rosa

There is a mixed gender team final at European Gymnastics championships next week. Not sure if this is how the Olympic mixed event will work.
“For the first time in European Championships history there will be a Mixed Team Final! One male and female gymnast from each federation will team up to form a mixed team. Women will compete on vault, balance beam and floor exercise, while the men will compete on floor exercise, parallel bars and vault. The gymnast with the highest total score across the three respective apparatuses in qualifying will be automatically selected to compete with the mixed team. The final will include 16 teams and will take place on Wednesday, May 28.”

I would have the men do rings, high bar, and pommel horse.

It seems pretty random, their selection of apparatus. Why not bars for women, instead of vault? Why not high bar for the men? No one wants to see parallel bars.

I really don’t know the reasoning. Is UB the most specialized for women? I guess SR and PH are the most specialized for men so it makes sense to leave them out, but I don’t know about HB. I actually love PB, but HB is the most exciting. VT has been the highest scoring apparatus, and it’s a quick one. BB generally has the most deductions in WAG.

In the DTB Pokal Mixed Cup, it seems each team chooses their 3 events because they didn’t all do the same 3.

I'm another parallel bars fan, and I love vaults from both genders. I'm also always astonished when the men can do pommel horse moves on the floor, which defies the imaginary physics that are in my head.
