GPdF 2025 PBP - Men FS: “When the Cock crows who will rule the Roost (er)?”

I think it was the 4sal 3A combo where I decided he’s not human.

The program is besides the point (and I’m not one to criticise 20-years-old pretentiousness, I was worse.) I’m not sure we will see someone with that athletic ability in our sport again in this lifetime.

Solid skate for Egadze, who is becoming quite the reliable skater in the past couple seasons. I wish he would bend his knees more on everything, but especially the jumps.

163.74 = 3rd Place
259.41 = 2nd Place

Yeah that jump combo is incredible and worth almost 20 points alone! Go Ilia! :cheer2:

Ilia's vocals over the music of the program are so pretentious. 😆 Taking it easy early in the season with just five quads. The back flip doesn't fit the mood/theme of this program, but it has nice style to it.

215.78 = 1st Place
321.00 = 1st Place

This is peak figure skating in so many ways, the Urmanov sleeves, the Plushenko play to the judges choreo, maybe a bit of Cranston in there of owning the ice, voiceovers, swagger, tech content. I will ding him for the bad hair color job. I love all of this.

From what I could make out on my phone screen, Ilia's hair and costume were better today but he needs to change the sleeves to straight/form-fitting...the puffy look is too 18th century opera (or cringe 80s).

Not a fan of the voiceovers but they are growing on me.

And to think this isn't even his tech peak.

Right, this is not even tech peak.

No matter how much other skaters, who are all great and worthy, attempt to scale the mountain, not one is going to touch Ilia in tech on his path to world and Olympic domination. He can put whatever brilliance or crap out on the ice because that's what he wants to perform whether we like it or not. Enjoy the ride.

Well, barring injury, Malinin is a lock for the OGM, but silver and bronze are really wide open among at least 4 maybe 5 skaters. They may be the more interesting skates and will depend on who can do two clean programs with all their possible tech.

I do wonder if Malinin will stay in another cycle or if he has life goals beyond skating at this point? He's been the major breadwinner for his family for several years now and has certainly helped his parents grow their coaching stable, but where does Ilia want to be 5 years from now? Just musing. Maybe he wants to join the exclusive club of skaters who has a gold medal from every major competition. Or go do something totally different. But, I hope he stays healthy and reaches the goal he and his parents set out to win come February.

I thought you were making a funny joke, till I read his bio:

Music Free Skating / Free Dance as of season 2025/2026
Journey through the Orient:
Eastern Intro by Jeff Van Dyck
Shadows Over Persia by Hakan Glante
Epic Middle Eastern Vocal by Andrea Krux
Middle Eastern by India Happy
Epic Middle East Female Vocal by Andrea Krux
Andrea Krux sounds like Grok’s cousin.

Oh, I think he definitely stays in for at least a few more seasons, barring injury. He was quoted after the SP yesterday about his work on quints over the summer. He said he managed to land a few but didn't have any videos of them as they aren't the priority - that will come after this season.

It is empty through the first half and when the jumps come back for the second half bonus 🤷‍♂️ what did you see that we may have missed?

He’s paying attention to the music, noting the accents. He’s not just barreling from jump to jump with no regard for the music. Obviously there’s some setup for the jumps, but I didn’t feel like that’s all there was. I’d have to go back to list specific steps, but I do remember a couple of spirals.

Ok caught up with the men, wow Adam and Ilia! So nice to see Adam back on form after injuries. The French team for the Olympics will be solid.
Ilia.. cannot wait to see this live at Skate Canada. He has really matured into an amazing skater the best of all time in my opinion, I just don’t understand how he can do such jumps and what about that combo spin at the end! Wow!

Handicapping making Olympic team after this event:

USA
-Malinin: yes, duh
-Torgashev: it’s a wash. Slightly hurt by terrible SP, slightly helped by 2 quad free skate
-Naumov: don’t think this helped him get any closer. He needs to beat his fellow non-Malinin teammates and he just hasn’t. And no second GP listed for him

FRA
Saio Him Fa: obviously going to be on the team, showed how good he can be in FS, but also showed his inconsistent vulnerability
Pitot: great competition for him, but no room at the inn. Only going if Aymoz completely falls apart and maybe not even then
Economides: just don’t see it happening for him

GEO
Egadze: he is the one

SUI
Britschgi: same

JPN
Tsuboi: he was looking for a better score/placement, this doesn’t help his BOW/reputation
Miura: this result hurts

EST
Selevko: there will definitely be a Selevko there :P. I haven’t closely followed how his brother is skating this season. This was an okay result for younger bro.

ITA
Frangipani: don’t think he can reach Grassl, Memola/Rizzo, certainly, not with skates like this
